Does anyone know what the max valve lift the LS1 can take with a cam before piston to valve clearance becomes an issue to be dealt with? Once you have a set of springs which can take the lift without binding, worrying about being less than .100 clearance from the valve to the pison might be something to consider.... or maybe not.
What are some thoughts on this.....

I've asked the same question before and lift isn't the biggest driving factor. Duration makes more of an impact...One could design a cam with over 3" of lift as long as the valves were only open at BDC <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

As fireball stated lift is not the determining factor. It is the combination of lift and duration that makes piston to valve clearance an issue.

Duh.... I an such a dunce...
You all have made a very good point.... that the duration and probably the advance or retard in the cam could affect the valve to piston clearance.
Does anyone have a ball park rule of thumb with the max duration and cam lift that can be run with stock pistons and not have to check the clearance. If one is going to change the cam without removing the Heads... then checking the clearance would not be possible.
Any thoughts on this...
Thanks to all who responded... you all make great points and I take my hat off to you......
