What cam would you pick for a 422??
What kind of idle and drivability do you want? What will the C/R be? Pump gas or race fuel? What heads? What intake manifold? How high do you want to spin the engine? How much spray?
Idle doesn't matter it can be very choppy, some what drivable but I have a pretty expanded idea of what drivable is. 7k max and ported 6.0 heads and a holley intake port matched. CR should be around 12 and a 200 shot.

You really don't need a solid lift just to spin 7000 (not saying that there wouldn't be some advantages.) If you were to stay hydraulic I would suggest the MTI S1 cam that I use. It's 244/244 .612/.612 112 LSA. I shift at 6800-6850 with this cam. It does make great power up to 7000 RPM but I'm not really comfortable with that.
I wouldn't worry about designing the cam around the spray for only a 200 shot. That's not much for a 422 CI engine.

I've got the MTI S1 camshaft also. I also agree that for anything less than a 300 shot, build the motor for max NA performance.
