Default Nice Street Cam?

Ok im planning on puttin in the prc ls6 heads this spring and im having trouble deciding which cam i should go with. From the little bit of knowledge ive gained i think the texas speed 224/224xe or 224r would be a decent cam that would still give me pretty nice driveability am i correct?

now i want to get it with a 112lsa for a choppier idle but does that make daily driving worse? and if so how much worse would it be?

im getting the heads with prc dual springs and the hardened pushrods and am going to run stock rockers, does that sound like enough? i know this cam isnt to crazy but i just want to make sure.

And which lift would be better for these ported ls6 heads? The 224r's .581/.581 or the 224xe's .566"/.566"

Im basically looking for a nice increase of about 35 - 50 hp that still maintains very good streetability so if there are any other suggestions please speak up.

a lot of guys are running the texas speed 228R or a custom grind 228/232 .588/.592 for street cams. I am putting in the 228/232 cam this spring. Another thing to consider is if you have emmissions testing or nor.

If your limited to TSP, go for the 224R or 228R. Either will give fine daily driveability as long as they are tuned right. You might be looking at 5-8rwhp up top with the larger cam.

Might as well take advantage of the heads and go with the 224r or 228r. Both should be pretty streatable. Good luck.

Or do like a 226/228 .588 .588 on a 111lsa, it would have a nice get up and go to it, and should pull well up top. prob peak at 6200rpm maybe lil less.

One thing you'll need to do is to get a good dyno tune which will should smooth out your cam of choice to have good driving charcteristics.

I'd stick with the 224. Properly tuned and supported its the quintessential street cam.
90/90, LT's, and prc 5.3 will lay down some serious power under the curve and put you into the low 11's with a proper drag suspension if you wanted to exploit it at the track. But for a street car its a perfect setup. Torque up the ying yang and HP before 2000 rpms.

yea i would love to get the magic stick but i dont think its worth having that in a car i drive in over 300 miles a week. I think im probably going to go with the 228r. With long tubes, ory intake and the ls6 heads and cam what do u think i should be running both power and 1/4 wise? Im not serious into running it on the track but i may start going this summer and eventually throw on the fast 90/90.

Oh and would it be a good idea to replace the lifters while the motors apart? I have 30k miles on it now but if its something worth doing i dont feel like pulling the heads twice

Will the 228R pass emmisions in Ontario?

Is there any reason i would want the 224R over the 228R for an 2002 TA with an M6?

Thanks,

Jason

It will take some serious work to pass a sniffer test. In fact the tune might need to be altered for the emisions test. Things like a warm idle of 1000 or 1100 rpm might help you get through.
