Default oil pan gasket install

Hi, I want to change the pan gasket on 99 ls1 firebird. I wanted to know Is there a way to change it without lifting the motor or do i need to? Can anyone tell me what to do for changing the pan gasket please...

you will have to drop the k-member. its not a fun job. i wouldnt change the gasket unless you have a leak or something. if its not leaking dont worry about it.

what about when you change the oil pump? On ls1howto, it says you have to drop the pan to change pumps. Do you just reuse the stock gasket thats on the car?

Yup. you dont have to drop the whole pan. just loosen all the pan bolts and it will drop about 1-2 inches. enough room to reach in there to get the pick-up tube bolt. when your done just tighten it back up. some people like to put some RTV around there to help it seal better. just make sure you dont over torque it when tightening it back up, it will strip very easily.
