Cleaning off old head gasket.

Before I put the head back on, just how clean does the block surface need to be? I have taken a plastic scraper on the entire surface and blown it all off and vacuum'd it out as much as I could. The surface feels smooth to the touch. I was scraping off what seems like a wax substance that was left over from the old head gasket. I got almost all of that crap off (major PITA BTW). How far do I need to take this to get the surface clean and preped for the new gasket?

use nail polish remover, works great, just did a heads/cam swap and used it to clean the block off and it looked just like the above photo, just don't get it on the car paint

Red scotch brite pad. The old graphite gaskets are a bitch compared to the mls ones.

Yea, thats what I used toward the end. Before I used that 3M brissle thing you put in your drill. Worked pretty good for the heavier stuff.
