How many 2002s are burning oil?
I'm just curious, GM "supposedly" fixed the 2002 LS1s and LS6s to eliminate oil burning, but I still hear people from time to time complaining of oil burning with 2002s on here.
How many of you 2002 are experiencing oil burning, and how much oil are you using?

Mine hasn't burned a drop.
Drove her for 400 miles on the interstate, then I was like a bat outta hell from then until now. Changed oil at 450 miles, 1000 miles, and 2000 miles with Valvoline Racing 10w30. Just switched to Royal Purple 5w30 at 3000 miles.

Mine is doing great. Even with 5-10 1/4-mile passes in one night, it didn't even burn 1/4 of a quart! I used around 1/3-1/2 qt. in 1,250 miles, and that was with quite a bit of 1/4-mile passes. With regular driving on the road, it doesn't use a drop.

I don't have a 2002 (mine is a 99), but I did get the new rings put in my motor which are SUPPOSED to stop the oil consumption. The 2002's come from the factory with these rings. FWIW, my motor still burns just as much oil as it did before the rings were installed- about a quart every 500-1000 miles.

I just saw a 2002 with 1000 miles on it 2 weeks ago with the heads off. The intake ports were covered in oil from the PCV shooting oil in there. The PCV systems ont hese cars are a joke.

Not mine. At least not yet. Time will tell if running it a little harder with the new cam will affect anything.

I havent burned any oil yet. I have 3300 miles on her. Changed to royal purple synthetics at 500 miles. My friends 98 Z28 burns a qrt. every 2000 miles or so. I hear that it is normal.

no oil burning for me, almost 10000 miles, using 0W30 mobile 1.

Re: How many 2002s are burning oil?
Just changed the oil for the first time... no problems. I've heard it is attributed to the way certain drivers keep the revs high while slowing down (downshifting?). I've also heard there is less oil consumption with dino oil than with synthetics.

Re: How many 2002s are burning oil?
I am talking to a GM regional rep about oil consumption (1 qt every 2000 miles) today. I am dissappointed that GM is revising their oil consumption estimates to coincide with their engineering challenges. Has anyone heard if the new rings really fix the issue? I am not keen on replacing rings is the result is the same.

If you are referring to the PCV problem, I think the fix is only on the LS6. The '01 and '02 camaros are the same as before.

My `02 Z has a small oil consumption problem but it`s not due to a ring problem. It`s because of the shiznitty pcv systems on these cars.

Mine is starting to burn quite a lot. There are bubbles on the dipstick every time I check the oil with the car running. I just got back from checking it and the damn dipstick was smoking when I pulled it out. I am kind of worried.

Re: How many 2002s are burning oil?
Talked with the GM Regional Rep about my oil consumption. I was late because my Low Oil indicator flashed on the way to the dealer and I needed a quart. At one quart of oil every 2400 miles, I have chosen to live with the issue rather than replace the oil rings.
