I have a 2000 Z28. Mine seldom uses oil, and it does get run hard a couple 'a times a week. Mine seems to use more at 80+ mph cruising than at WOT. We see plenty of folks that have HIGH oil consumption. How many have LOW oil consumption, at least on a mostly stock engine? Mine has almost 54K miles now.

I have never added any oil between changes on my 98Z. I have often thought about this myself. I can not tell you if the inside of my intake has oil in it like everyone says because I've never looked. My car currently has 25k on it and is ran hard almost every time I drive it.
Maybe we're just lucky.?.?

I don't think I could pay mine to use a lot of oil. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> No matter how many passes down the 1/4-mile it gets or how many WOT blasts I make on the street, it hardly uses any oil. I was used to my '98 T/A that used 1/3-1/2 qt. every time I went to the track! I just sent a sample of the Royal Purple 10w-30 off today to be analyzed, so I'm very anxious to see how the oil and my internals are holding up.

Well, I have had my 98 TA that has been in storage for about 3 years, but I can say this; It has 32,000 miles. Burns no oil.

Used good ol' Pennzoil 10-30 dino oil for the first 12,000 miles. Then changed to Mobile 1.

I still am convinced an engine should be broken in with conventional oil for at least the first 10,000 miles...... Just my opinion...... I still dont think these synthetics allow the rings to seal well if used right away.

I have installed a air/water separator in my pcv line and i see now that oil is carried by pcv gases to intake manifold. I have never used more than 1 quart in 3000 miles, but now im confident there is no ring sealing issues causing oil consumption. I believe this true for most Ls1 owners the worst cases of oil use are probably caused by rings sticking from exposure to pcv system oiling. This problem should be history with my new mod.Campbell Hausfield sells this mini separator at auto zone, etc. BTW

For the 2.5 years and 27k I owned my 98 Formula it did not burn any oil at all, even with 250 1/4 mile runs. I used only Mobil 1.

I heard the new owner is having major consumption probs though. Bonehead must have messed something up somehow.

I have 95k on my 98 and I don't notice any oil consumption at all in between 3k mile oil changes.

1999 Here and before my heads/cam I had Zero usage. I had maybe 300 1/8th passes on it then.

Now, I use some after racing at the strip a lot. I beleive that is due to the ARE oil pump though I stuck in. Just a gut feeling there since I can't say for sure.

'98, I never needed to be EVEN close to adding oil between 3K oil mile changes for the 12K miles I drove the car with the stock motor.

The motor I built doesn't use oil either, but it has Speed-Pro rings so I don't think that's too terribly relevant other than to point out they're "good"

I have a 01 and I dont have any oil issues either. I used to use Mobil 1 and had serious oil issues where it smokes from so much oil in the intake system. I actually had oil puddling in the intake after a few passes at the track <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I switched to Valvoline synthetic 10w30 and have 0 oil issues and my oil pressure is back where it was supposed to be. With Mobil 1, I lost from 5 to 7 lbs of pressure <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I just put in a bottle of Lucas oil treatment since my car sits for a week at a time so the bearing are VERY dry. Ive personally seen miricals from that stuff <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I've never had a problem with either one of mine. I've always used Mobile One and have now switched to Royal Purple, no problem with either. We have about 40K on my wife's TA and about 55K on the Z.

i have a 98 with 47000miles and its been 4500 miles since my last oil change. i beat the hell out of it and it uses absolutely no oil, royal purple 10 30w by the way. just lucky i guess <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I guess from this sampling there are lots that don't use oil, or very little. I get -some- oil in the TB, never checked out the IM. Should add I used Valvoline Dino 10W30 until about 18K miles and have been using Mobil Tri-Syn since. My hot idle oil pressure in gear on very hot days does dip between 30-35 PSI lately.
I still think it strange that what little oil consumption I have had has been at Interstate speeds cruising 1800-2000 RPM, and not at WOT.

I didn't notice any oil consumption during my first oil change. I changed at 1,500 miles and now have 3,000 miles and I looked and it looked like I was 1/3-1/2 quart low. I guess that's not bad but that could be because I used a larger filter this time and the place that changed it might not have added more oil to make up for it.

Mine never used oil right up to about 65,000 miles or so. (I ran it about once a week, a dozen or so passes in the 8th or quarter mile).

I installed a Supercharger, and it uses about a pint every 3,000 or so miles (if I race it heavy).

It was more noticeable when I went to the quarter-mile track more.
