Re: collapsed lifter
Yes, It's a very load tick from inside and outside the car at all RPM's, unlike a Bent pushrod which is only a slight tick that gets more noticable as the RPM's increase.

Re: collapsed lifter
The ticking can clearly be heard inside the car, but more importantly, it can clearly be heard underneath the car, or in the wheel well.
When mine went, I could barely hear it over the other valve train noise with my head under the hood. But if I stuck my head in the wheel well, it became very very noticiable.

Re: collapsed lifter
hmm..well i hear a tickin noise, but it isnt loud at all..but i never used to hear it there before. I just did a clutch install, and now im hearin that noise, so im wondering how the hell did a clutch install effect something inside the engine. Did you notice any difference in the way the car drives when u had lifter problems?

Re: collapsed lifter
Here is the symptoms mine had:
No noise on cold start up,when oil got hot slight ticking would start at idle and low rpms.
When you shut off the car for a minute and start it,the ticking would be loud from the wheel well.Pop the hood open and lightly rev the engine up and down.If the ticking follows rpm, then that could be your problem.
The dealer replaced all of mine and the noise is gone. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: collapsed lifter
I have a tick exactly as you decribed, heard louder in the wheel well.. And follows rpm. However, i also got a slight stumble on acceleration for a little while.. but i inspected my injecters, unplugged them one at a time... When i got to the 3rd one back on the passenger side, the noise went away. I unplugged it, the tick went away, and when i hit the gas, it had a similar stumble to what i was experiencing.. SO i went to GM, told em about it, and even though im out of warranty, they are going to replace my injectors at no charge.. I hope that takes car of the tick.. i dont want any valve noises...

I've bent pushrods before, and it was a light ticking noise...
This last one was a loud clacking noise. I started the car, and started the burnout right away, bounced off the rev limiter a little bit....
Clack Clack Clack Clack. I limped it home, but the noise had gone away by the time I got there. Still don't know what it was, but was thinking it was a lifter.
