Default need help with cam

i need some helping deciding on a cam. i havent bought anything in a while for my car and i need to buy something now i dont know anything about cams so i dont even know what to look for.

the mods are in the sig. it has to pass emissions in IL, unless i can register it to a place that doesnt check. i want a nice power increase prolly in the higher rpm range cause the converter makes traction an issue as it is, and the converter kinda kills my topend. i really dont want to change converters and i want to keep a 3.23/3.42 gear. obivously i cant have a wild crazy cam cause of emissions... what kind of power/et increase would i see with a cam only.

i need the lope!

I would give thunder racing a call and order their 220/220 camshaft on a 114 lsa.You can also call MTI which is more expensive but they have great camshafts as well.I am not sure how much the cam kit is but thunders is 699.99 with everything except for titanium retainers which you will have to add another 100 bucks for them.

Should be a nice power gain. Get 26918 springs to match, and if you plan to rev real high (6600+) the 772 ti retainers might be a good choice. The stock retainers will work fine, but the lighter weight 772s are nice for high rpm operation to keep the potential for valve float away. Also prolong spring life. Honestly though, with a 222/222//.563/.563 you could probably rev as high as you want with stock retainers and be ok. I don’t think anyone has floated 26918s with cam specs like those at decent rpms...

Tom makes good recommendations. I would push it a little farther though and go for a 224/224 on a .56X lift. 114lsa. That will probably be as big as you can go and still pass emissions. 224 will let you take a little more advantage of your LS6 intake and make great street power. Get a ported TB while your at it too (if you don’t already have one).

i was throwing around the idea of getting a pair cheaper heads as long as i had the engine apart...but i think it would be better to wait for more cash and get a nicer set of heads. right now i dont think i could afford a port job on a stock head . why do you ask

If you plan to do a set of heads by the end of the year then that will factor into the cam selection.

I don’t think a 224 on a 112lsa will pass. It might with tuning, but it would be very close and you’d need like 4 cats probably...

I would stick with a 114lsa. I know the 112s sound nice, but for an auto why not get the improved idle quality of a 114? You’re gonna have a rough time keeping the car idling in gear with a 112 even with a raised idle when you turn the A/C on, if you’re planning to keep the AC that is.

112 won’t really give you any power over a 114 in the 222/224 duration range, IMO. 112 will be “peakier” and maybe give you a hair more low end torque, but what do you need with 3000rpm and less TQ for with your stall anyway... I’d get the 114...

You can clearly hear a TR224 cam with a 114lsa even through a dual/dual on a 900rpm idle. I know this for a fact. One of our cars has it

Emissions sucks. I'm looking for a way around that issue myself
