Default Changing valves on 5.3 heads

I've read on the board that the 5.3 and 5.7 heads have the same valve seat and that it is good for up to a 2.02 valve. If this is the case is it just a matter of dropping in 2.02 valves is there any machining required other than a valve job?

Thanks
Eric

The 2.02 valve drops right in to a 5.3l heads. However, you will need to unshroud the valve quite a bit since the chamber was shaped for a 1.89 valve and a 3.78" bore.

I would have to disagree with the "drop right in statement." I have a set of 5.3l heads right here with Manley 2.00 valves and they far from just drop in. Sure they physically fit, but in oder to get the correct spring installed height, the seat needs to be cut alot and a valve job needs to be done to get the correct back cut angles.

When I said "drop right in", I assumed he was doing a valve job since he stated in the original post he was.

My bad, Jason. Yet, it will require more than just a valve job, the seats are gonna have to be cut alot. If your machine shop counts that as part of a valve job then lucky you.
