Default i found this on the oil drain plug.....pics

well i decided to change my own oil today ....i found some gunk on the oil drain plug. its silverish in color not much butits there. i also found a very small metal piece on the plug, it looks like its rusted or that just maybe the color of it.. can any one tell me if this is normal....i have a 2001 z28 with 57,548 on the clock...i had it dyno tuned a couple of months ago. but other than that i dont really abuse it...maybe a street race every so often but not likely. sorry about the quality of the pics...the metal piece is inside the red circle and all the other mess is the oil/gunk that was on the plug.

what can i use to cut open the oil filter to check for any more metal pieces w/out contaminating the int.???

thanks

are you serious?
if so this is normal
its coating that wears off bearings and other internsals
no need to worry

When I changed my oil last I found a few very small pieces of metal in the oil. It was right after a head swap so there may have been some residuals left from that, but I havn't noticed any problems.

There are places you can send your oil off to for analyizing. Don't know any off hand, but if you want to know what is exactly in your oil you can do a google.
