Default Cam Change Question ????

When changing the cam on the LS-1, do you have to loosen or remove the oil pan to get the timing cover off? Reading the service manual seems to indicate that you have to deal with the oil pan, but is this true in the real world?
Thanks...

There are two oilpan bolts that go into the timing cover that have to be removed. Other than that you don't have to touch anything on the oilpan.

Car is a 98 Convertible. I guess I will be changing the chain to a double roller, as I hear a lot about this on the site, and also will change the oil pump while it is opened up.
Thanks for your help.... It cleared that up for me.
