Default Everyone with ARE Stage 2 Heads

Just need some help with a few things cause I might get some used ARE S2 Heads with 8k miles on them. Anyone with the same cam as me (TR 224) go with these heads and if so how much did you dyno? If these heads have 8k on them is there anything I should be worried about? I am looking for some heads that will give me 430+ rwhp will these heads get me there or close? Thanks

I am rooting for you.. I am one of the high stock cam dyno guys who did not pan out.. ARE heads should net you the results you are looking for with ls1edit..

I had 2 different cams than you. One smaller 222 .534 114, one larger 226/234 .554/.575 112 and both dynos I only made 365rwhp or so. My AFR was off a bit but I am still dissapointed by the power. I just got my new trans in after 3mo out of commision so hopefully I can tune a bit more power out of it.

I have the 2.05 valves.

VINCE
I remember that you had made some pretty good power close to 400 with just a cam and then went with Heads and gained .....I think 10-15 rwhp? What was the cause of that, tuning?

F8LPONY
That sucks! I am sure you already called them to complain...what did they say if so? Has Ralph done anything else to find out what it is?
NoGo
I wish I could take them to a shop but the guy is in Texas and wants about $1300.
Do you guys think its worth it $1,300, these heads do have the 2.08 valves and he says they are in very good shape. He dynoed 430rwhp and 420 torque and has a simular cam as me heres his cam specs 226/234 551/575 112 . If I dont have ls1 edit yet what will be my main probelms? Will I be ok with just the Maf translator for a while? Thanks alot guys!

Your biggest concern should be the valvetrain. If you are going to be getting the heads with the double valvetrain, then you will have to clearence your stock rockers to make it over the big springs. It's not that hard, I did my own. You just need a die-grinder (sp?).

I think those are two very different cams. His is a split which will bias a restrictive exhaust. Yours being a single pattern will be more inhibited by your 'restrictive' Macs... From my understanding of cams.

Given you are already pushing out 400 hp, you should be *very* close to the desired 430 point. It's only a dyno number though.

Good Luck

I bought a set of used ARE stage 2 heads and they needed $300 worh of fixing to make them like new. All the exhaust guides had to be replaced.

I usually suggest against buying used heads unless its a really good deal.

Listen to NoGo.. Your valvetrain is real important. I had problems post adding heads and then I ended up having Norris Motorsports build me another forged 346ci. I am still breaking the car in but it dyno 402rwhp. Take in consideration that I have no cutout and I do not have all the bolt ons.. My A/F is still off, but I will resolve that eventually. My car probably has 415rwhp in it if I swap out headers and get all the bolt ons and led Geoff at Thunder Racing work wonders with ls1edit on my car Heads are real important. If you make a mistake you will pay dearly..

I'd probably look into new springs and have them inspected before installation.

I dynoed less than 400 RWHP, but my ET is pretty decent for my weight.

FWIW.... Before you do fully dedicate yourself to the heads, take them to a machinist, and have him check them over / measure them out. There is nothing worse than purchasing a set of heads that are warped, or have a bad valve guide.... things you can't see with the naked eye.

I run the ARE Stg II heads with a 226 cam. I think the Mac's might hold you up from the 430, but you should be close.

Good Luck
