I've been curious about using an LS2 block for a 402 as well. As far as general parts compatibility from gen 3 to 4, I think the crank and rods will work correct? I know an LS2 has the same stroke as the LS1 anyway. Though I don't know if it would be worth the expense to build an stock cube LS2 with an LS1 crank. I'd build a stroker, but it would be nice to know for general knowledge.

The Crank and Rods will work without a problem, you could build a Stock LS1 with part of the LS1 Rotating Assembly, I would get it balanced though because of the difference in the LS2 Pistons.

I was looking into goin to an Aluminum Block LS2, and if I did, I would wire up what I needed to, and use my same Rotating Assembly(Crank, Rods, Pistons) that I have now, because it would go in without a problem.

If I went to a LS3 Block, I would get different Pistons, and have the Rotating Assembly balanced again.

How do the motor mounts differ from the LS1 to the LS2? Are they the same? What else will need to be done to the chassis after the swap? Does the motor sit in the same place? What about the driveshaft? Can the same shaft be used? Or does it need to be shortened?

Use your Ls1 motor mounts and ls1 driveshaft. Both are identical. My Ls2 in 01 SS should be finished up by Monday or Tues

Hey I have a 2001 GMC. It came with a 5.3 LM 7. Can I drop in a 6.0 LS2 w/o too much trouble?

I have a 99 WS6 that I'm building a ls2 6.0L for. My ls6 intake that fit on a 99 ls1 5.7L will not fit on the ls2, It is to narrow. The 99 ls1 is a Gen 3 engine the ls2 that I have is a Gen 4 engine. My ls2 came out of a 2003 trailblazer SS.

I know this thread is old but how much would it cost to swap from a 58x reluctor to a 24x reluctor?

Default LS2 Swaps

Great info to consider. I have to build me a new plant soon for my 01 Z due to a starter failure and finding this thread gives me some more food for thought. Wondering if anyone can post some updates on lessons learned from performing this swap themselves the past couple of years.

Hi i just purchased a bare lq4 block. I'm dropping it in my 1999 corvette. i'm going to purchase a 408 stroker kit for it that will work with my pcm(24x crank wheel). My cam was intended for my ls1 but i decided just to put everything on this block. I know my top end and everything will bolt right up but as far as seals and timing covers go...will i need to buy the ls2/lq4 style or could i just swap over my timing set from the original motor. I looked for those harness kits that were mentioned in the first post but i couldn't find the "complete" kits, just individual parts. The part #s or a link to them would be much appreciated.

as long as the lq4 block takes the cam sensor in the top of the block you can use all of your factory corvette stuff.

you drill the block where the ls2 knock sensors go...the holes are already there you just make them larger and tap them accordingly.

there is a picture in the very first post of this thread pointing to it's location
