Lightbulb LS2 conversion info inside

This data was gathered from multiple posts from ls1tech sponsors and people that have made the swap from an ls1, ls6 to an LS2. I have yet to do the swap but here is the info that I have gathered. If the info here needs to be changed or updated please advise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

To use an LS1/LS6 pcm/harness on an LS2, you will need a knock sensor extension harness along with LS1/LS6 knock sensors,
and also a cam sensor extension harness

SDPC sells a kit with all of the plugs, dowels, bolts, and the other parts listed above that are needed if you have a bare
LS2 block. It is $324.95.

LS2PK - $66.95 It has all of the oil and water plugs and the main cap side bolts.
LS2CK-1 - $249.95 This kit has the valley cover, front cover, timing chain, timing chain damper, crank key, lifter trays, and bolts.
LS2CK-2 - $289.95 Same as -1 kit but also has cam and knock sensor harnesses.

Scroggin-Dickey and Texas Speed sells these kits as well!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reluctor Wheel *IMPORTANT*

Gray = 58X
Black = 24X

1997-2005: 24x crank, 2x cam
2006+: 58x crank, 4x cam
06 Corvette LS2/LS7 = 58X
06 GM crate engine = 58X
06 GTO and 06 Trailblazer SS LS2 are carryover 24X engines

If swapping 58x into a factory car that originally had an LS1 then you should change the reluctor so everything in the car operates normally (traction control, gauges, etc.). If you are doing a hot rod, street machine, etc., then no need to change. Just set it up using the new Corvette computer designed
for the 58X engines.
If you have an '06 or newer LS2 the reluctor wheel must be changed on the crank as the LS1 style PCMs can not read the signal.

Below is a 58x picture (borrowed from Katech site)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your LS1, LS6 intake, fuel rails, injectors and coil packs will work on the LS2 engine.

LS2 injectors will NOT fit on your ls1 ls6 intakes, it is possible but you will need to purchase Injector adapter harness kit from Katech 100$

Upgrading the lifters is not required but it's not a bad idea to upgrade to the new LS7 lifters for 100$

The oil pan will transfer over from an LS1.

LS1 heads and cam will work on the LS2 engine. Different head bolts may be required and I am assuming that is part of the sdpc kit above.

Water pump and Oil pump transfer over.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heres were to put your knock sensor on thre LS2 block on both sides, for the f-bodys

Great info for anyone contemplating an LS2 based 402.

Thanks for the write-up and sticky!

I'd think any LSX type shop would be able to do the conversion. Doing the work yourself however would end being much cheaper.

Doing any work yourself is cheaper, and you know what you did..that's why I did my own Harness.
Nice write up..

Thats some really good info. I am curious if ppl have any more info on the LS2 conversion. Like if I buy the BARE block what can I use off my LS1 and what do I need also what are some good things to do when you have it apart so you don't have to go back in to do. I'm looking at getting the block but its really hard to find info theres not a lot so any more info would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, I would like a little clarification on what I can swap over, I am running a hybrid carb setup but would like to have a few more cubes, and cannot afford to re-buy all my performance parts, i.e. (shaft rockers, water pump, oil pump , oil pan, lifters, valves, heads , cam , flywheel, clutch , starter , crank damper, etc.

I would find more info very helpful

Post your questions in the engine sections and some of the sponsors will hopefully answer them, when they do post the info here so I can update this thread

LS2 PCM and harness on LS1 possible? it would be nice to have Active Fuel Management (formerly known as Displacement on Demand) on a Gen III. I'm just too poor to afford a brand new Gen IV

youre not going to get AFM on a motor not made for it.
theres more to it than the ECM, you need special lifters, cam, etc.

Does the 2X sprocket/sensor replacement on an LS2 send the same signal at the same timing as the LS1-style camshaft reluctor, or does that have to be programmed into the computer as well? In other words, does the LS1 PCM see them same thing as it would have if it were a rear-sensor engine when this change is made?

Yes but more in 402 forms, if stock LS2 the outcome is 400fhp.

I didnt know that the LS1 Heads and intake would carry over and work on an LS2, are their any downsides to using them (Im on a budget and wondering how they would perform).

^^You being a 2002 Car would have a LS6 Intake, so stick with that. Look for some 243 Heads though if you can get them for cheap.

Nice. Guess it wouldn't be so terribly expensive to switch over. I'm guessing it's about the same story for guys using the LS3 blocks to build 416's?
