Head Questions
He wants to just do a basic, local (keywords) port job only, as he can't swing the cam now. I advised him not to expect to really see a notcable gain (5-10whp?)with a simple head only deal, and advised maybe to go with the TEA CNC $600 deal.
He has the JBA shorties with the factory Y (very restrictive I say) Any cars over 350whp breathing thru this set-up?
Where can I gat some comparative flow #s for a stock LS1 head vs an LS6 vs a basic stage I head (don't turn this into a tunder vs tunder issue )
Also, where can I get info on cam theories, especially pertaining to the LS1?! I know theories on this are changing daily, and I advised him to visit Thunder's website (he's also an M6 and they are seeing sick #s with M6, stock headed cars)
I told him this is the place for true tech questions, so please don't let me down
If I were him, maybe do the TEA CNC for $600. With just heads he should see 20+ rwhp gain depending on the other mods.
As to the stock Y pipe, have the muffler shop cut out the flat section and weld in replacement, much cheaper than buying a aftermarket Y pipe.
Shorties won't give the gains long tubes do. Most find shorties pretty worthless on 01 and up cars. Shorties can be worth 5-8rwhp on 98-00 cars. Not much gain for the hassle. Save up and get long tubes or MAC's if you can.
Also read the board it's the best place to learn info.
Good Luck
