Default Bad 3 to 2 shift, what's my damage?

So the other night I had the car out for the first time in a bit...
I banged 2nd while trying to hit 4th quick...I realized it very quickly and threw the clutch in instantaneously...
Well, I guess it wasn't quick enough as I got the wheel hop and soon after a nice SES light

I babied the car home and haven't really checked on it yet...
I'm figuring a bent rod?
I'm new to the M6's (had an A4 previously)

I may just order a set of Comp rods and then pull the covers and check all my rods and replace them.
Figure I'll be doing them sooner or later when I do a H/C set-up (or whatever) so why not use this as excuse to do them now?

What else could I have damaged?

you could of hurt your rear end gears, tranny gears... go to advance auto and have them scan your car and print you out the codes, they will look up the code for you also.. trust me...i work there

I did the exactly the same thing in summer of 06. SES light came on, I can tell just by listening when I am drivig that my rear end is screwed. I have a louder hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm coming from back. Tranny is ok. I am going with a 9" and a PRO 5.0 shifter with short stick. Apparently with aftermarket shifter, I will not have that problem again.

Guys, this same question has been asked time and time again. Check your pushrods by rolling them on a plate of glass. If the car runs rough for any reason, you may need to do a compression check to see if you possibly bent a valve. The 3-2 shift produces a mechanical over-rev that the rev limiter cannot protect the engine from.

The solution, change the way you shift. Instead of pulling the handle with your palm toward you (like the 1-2 shift), flip your hand and grasp the shifter with your palm facing the passenger side (thumb and fore-finger below the other fingers on the handle). It is not a natural movement to pull the handle towards the 2nd gear gate in this manner.

For another "ask me how I know" check your transmission mount. It happened to me one of the first times I got a highway race in my car, and the loud bang I heard was the tranny mount tearing away and allowing the tranny and torque arm to hit the floor. Fortunatley for me, that's easier to fix than even pushrods.

Good luck - hope you get a simple fix too!

Funny, because I normally do that
But, I was just being stupid and forgot

My rear should be fine as I'm rockin' a Moser 2 back there
I'm hoping just a rod or two, I should go get it scanned but was told I shouldn't really drive it just incase I've bent a valve...what do you guys think?

if the ses light starts flashing you have a misfire even if it stays on steady somethings up ..pop the valve covers and check all the push rods I'm sure you bent atleast one..I know I did

This happened to me in my 98 SS back in 2001 when I was on my way to vacation to virginia beach. The car made it the whole way down and back to new york with a severely bent pushrod or two. Then once I got back, my transmission went, followed by a huge chunck breaking of the pinion gearin thre rear end. After that an exhaust spring in the motor went. And then, since i just had the pushrods replaced when it first happened, just from driving it hard a pushrod bent again because the valvesprings were too weak. And this mistake happend the second day I owened this car.

Connecting rod bolt broke and it sawed a hole through the block..catastrophic motor failure..caused by the good ol powershift from red line in third gear back into second gear... ..the fuel shutoff or "rev limiter" will not save a motor from a massive mechanical over rev like that..

holy **** that block above was screwed.....

I did this in my GTO twice now once on the track, once racing a vette (had him too until that happened).....I'm replacing heads/cam/pushrods/more.....

the car still runs fine at the moment, I'll just feel better knowing everything valvetrain wise has been replaced....and....I um,.....want to go faster anyways

Yeah, I was going to have Tony run it for me, but I've just been waiting for this damn weather to clear up

Also, I figure I'll just order a new set of rods and throw them in...I'll have to do them sooner or later (h/c?) so why not use this as an excuse to do them now?
