Can we discuss differences in the TR220 and TR224?????
What are the power differences, 1/4 mile times, and all around drivability of each one??
Also how is the exhaust note on each of them does the 220 lope??
I've heard there is only like a 5hp difference between the 2 and if that is the case I'll just take the 224. Thanks, all opinions are appreciated.
I'm excempt from emission testing but if i was worried the least I'd go with something I knew would pass just so I wouldn't have to asorb the cost of doing it twice.
But the 224 will make a little more power. Not tons more but it will a little.
Your last statement doesn't really make sense. if theres only 5 horsepower difference between then why go with the larger one if you concerend about emission testing??

Many M6's with 224 duration cams require reaching for 5th instead of 6th unless your going 75-80mph on the Interstate, unless you change the rear gear to a more friendly 3.73 or 4.10, due to the loss of lower end torque. I don't know how the TR220 would do without tuning, but it would probably be ok with a drilled TB. For best shot at passing emissions, tuning would probably help.
If your car is an A4, you'll probably require tuning to get the 224 idle up and pass emissions. I think the 220 would very likely require tuning too.
The TR224 on a 114 LSA would come closer to passing emissions than the TR224 on 112 LSA all other things being equal, but the 114 LSA would move the power band up.
Personally, for 5-10hp more, less bottom end torque, more potential emissions issues, more potential to need programming, I'd pass on the TR224 and get the TR 220.
If someone has already been thru getting the TR224 to pass and can show it's not that bad to get thru emissions, then I might reconsider.

I talked to TR last week as I am going to get a cam from them this week. They told mt to go with the 224/224 114. That it would pass emissions and give me a good bit of power. I'm going with the 224/224 112 because I want the harsh idle (I like to set off alarms ).

You're going with a 224/224 112LSA and expect to pass smog? Good Luck!
Unless AZ is alot easier than here in CA you better try to go with at least the 114LSA if you ever intend to pass a sniffer.
A good rule of thumb for satisfying the smog ***** here in CA: Try to keep the intake and exhaust durations at or under 221/221 and the LSA at or over 114. 224/224 is pushing it but I have heard rumors of people squeaking by, but it is a gamble and will likely require programming if it really is possible at all.
I've got a B1 and a few other goodies sitting in my garage right now that will be going in very soon. I am very confident that I will not have smogging problems. I thought about that TR224 but I also like sleeping at night knowing I have nothing to worry about. We can always build additional power through other methods here .
