Default Help me choose from these 4 cams...

These are the cams I'm considering. Specs are from memory so please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll tell you what I'm looking for first. Crazy *** lope is number 1 priority. I don't care if it idles with the AC on to be honest, I just want the classic musclecar sound. The second priority is good power, and I'd like to see near even numbers with HP and TQ at the wheels, ie 380rwhp, 380rwtq.. Those are actually the numbers I'm kinda shooting for, those or up of course . The third priority is a cam that peaks no higher than say 6300-6400. And thats really about it. Now for the cam choices I have in mind (if you have any suggestions let's hear 'em!!) :

#1 The GMPP ASA cam. 226/236 .525/.525 110lsa
From personal experience, as in seen many dyno sheets and two friends of mine have them in GA, it peaks around 6300, and gives equal numbers, and has well, a crazy *** idle. Both of my friends have stock heads, one does 405/400 with his heads milled some, and basically all the bolt ons. The second one puts out 395/390 and he only has the cam and SLP headers, nothing else, not even a lid. The lift isn't very high, so I am actually rather attracted to this cam because of the easy life for the valvetrain.

#2 The MMS 229 cam 229/229 .578/.578 114lsa
I would rather have it ground on a 112lsa in order to bring the power peak rpm down some and get a crazier idle. I have asked around about this cam and have been told it peaks at about 6400, and drivability is great. Doesn't have much of a chaotic idle, which I hope the 112lsa would solve. It also has a high lift so I would assume more power, but from what I've seen that isn't necessarily the case.

#3 The TR 230/224 .569/.561 111lsa
Well, this is more of a high revving cam, so never mind, ignore this one. Cool idle, and I like the reverse split, but it limits Nitrous in the future, and it peaks up high. If someone has a different opinion or proof of this then please tell me and it will become a contender again.

#4 hmm, I don't really know.. Speed Inc has a custom comp gring that is as follows: 226/232 .568/.568 on a 112lsa. They say this is for maximum horsepower on a stock displacement LS1 for street driving. Sounds good to me and it offers more lift than the ASA cam. I don't know anyone that has it however. Not sure what would change by doing this over the ASA.

I'm just looking for opinions on all 4. Oh and on the ASA cam do you think LS6 springs are fine or go with the 918's? Thanks guys. Also, I'd like to drill the TB for temporary driving. I will get custom tuning eventually, just not straight out of the box. TIA

I would go with the MMS cam if you are getting custom tuning done to the car.

I think GM is coming out with a high lift ASA cam shortly so you may want to find out if thats still gonna happen. I've heard the 02 LS6 springs are good to .570 lift but should be checked regularly like you would for other springs when you're running that much lift.

I think all the cams are gonna come in a little higher than the 6400 limit you set for yourself. I think you can't go wrong with the Thunder 224/224 112 cam which should give you the peaks you're looking for between 62-6300 while shifting around 6500

The ASA cam is 236/236. IMO, the LS6 springs are too weak for just about anything. Why chance it when there's better available?

Why not custom order yer own cam from Comp (via one of the lovely sponsors, of course <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> ) Like maybe 226/230 .580/.580 @ 112 For this I'd be using double springs.

I'm pretty sure the ASA cam is 226/236, I know it's split duration. I did find the cam, some 941 springs, retainers and pushrods for 250. So I went ahead and got that. If GM does come out with a high lift I can always swap out again.
