How long to pull the heads?
How long to pull the heads? It looks like I may have to be changing out my lifters, for those of you that have pulled heads to do something similar, ideally to change lifters, how long did it take you? I should have Monday night from 8 to about 11 is when I'll be done, then all of Tuesday. No power tools though, I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I'd just like your opinions. And if any of you can suggest a good lifter I'd appreciate that too (I was going to just get some stockers).
I went with stock LS7 lifters and it didnt take me that long to pull the heads and install the lifter, now the actuall cleaning of the surface and bolt holes was the long and weary process. After that, it doesnt take long to torque the heads down properly. You should be able to do it in a couple of days taking your time.... and yeah, pay attention to detail....
I ended up doing it three times within 2weeks. I had to change the lifters because a person who i bought a low miles lifters were f-ed up. He told me it was like 1k miles on them,but couple of them were no spring tension on them. The second time was broken head bolt,the third was me reusing the gm multilayer head gasket that was torqed down before was leaking. Well... enough with my story,but it should be easy. Well for me it was because me having to do it the third time and costing me alot of money. Make sure to take your time like what blkbird said and also don't never buy certain used parts when doing the swap. Good luck..
The actual pulling of the heads is pretty quick, the long part is cleaning the head and block deck surfaces and cleaning the bolt holes. With the engine in the car I would give it a weekend to be sure it is fully clean/dry once you button it back up and to allow enough time to retorque the head bolts every few hours.
Thanks, so I could do it in a day right? I will definately be buying new stuff, gaskets/bolts/ and of course lifters. Blkbrd, do you have the p/n on the LS7 lifters, all I'm finding is a general LSX lifter p/n (17122490) and those are $28.48 a piece!! Theres no way stock lifters are $400.00

Nice, are the $99 ones the stock ones? Would those Hydraulic ones be alot better? (Keeping in mind its a mild H/C car).

the "LS7's" are the new redesigned GM lifters used in all applications to include LS1, LS2, LS6. The ones in the link above are the "LS7's" everyone is talking about and the correct ones you need. If you have doubt, call SDPC Tech line, and they will help you out.

^^ Yea, that is why, I thought lifter failure was more common. What else could it be do you think? Pushrods/springs/rocker arms all check out. I don't want to do it unless I have to.
This is kind of unexpected, and my ported/polished 1.6/2.02's 241's flow pretty well

There are just so many different things that can cause a "tap" in a motor.
