Default Re: Heads and Cam -- Post your info

Here's mine to get it started:

H/C make/stage: ARE stage II
Head Specs: 2.08/1.60
Cam Specs: 226/234 554/575 112
Dyno Numbers (and location): 395rwhp/386rwtq @ cartek
Best track time (street/radials/nittos) & location: None yet
Best track time (slicks) & location: No slicks
Major Mods (non std): LT headers w/offroads, ported TB, ported LS6 intake, RAM clutch, full exhaust
Comments: Why the $#@% did I pay all this extra money for a setup that produces less power than a cheaper setup? Big giant valves, big cam, lots of bucks, less power than most other stage I equivalent setups. I would think it was just my setup/car, but Ive seen now 5 others with similar ARE setups and crappy dyno nymbers (all under 400rwhp). I am not a happy camper.

H/C make/stage:
Head Specs: MMS stage 2x (5.3L)
Cam Specs: MMS 229v2.1
Dyno Numbers (and location): 435/400 (MMS dyno)
Best track time (street/radials/nittos) & location: Who races on street tires?
Best track time (slicks) & location: 10.98/122 @ Carlsbad Raceway (by San Diego, CA)
Major Mods (non std): ~150# weight reduction, TP4400 stall, EWP, Burger ram air

Don't worry about dyno numbers. Some claim numbers like yours with stock heads, manifolds and just a cam. How good does it run ??

I couldnt help but notice that you have an ARE setup and dont have dyno numbers or track times in your sig. Coincidence?

Anyhow, thats why I put the post up-- I want to see both from as many people as possible. So come on people! Lets see what they look like! I want to see low and high results both.

I made 360/360 on a Mustang dyno in December. I'm having it done again at the SuperFest next month on the same DynoJet 248 that I made my stock run on. (316/327) I think it will give me a more accurate comparison.

ARE stage 2 H/C
- cam 226\234 .554\.575 112
- heads 2.08 x 1.60
dyno- 414RWHP/387RWQT (done a local dynoshop by Rapid Motorsports)this was through a 12 bolt with 4.10s and with my chrome 17x11 ZR1s with 315s
-no new times yet
-old set-up had about -50 RWHP and went 12.6@111MPh with a 2.260ft with stock gears, stock clutch and on not so good F1s, oh and a track with no prep.
MODs- RAM VDS clutch, custom 12 bolt with 35 spline axles and 4.10s, BMR SFC, lower control arms, LS6 intake, SLP 85mm MAF, ported TB, SLP cold air induction, whisper lid and K&N, Grott headers, off-road y-pipe, LM exhaust, custom tuning by Ed wright, chrome ZR1s- 17x9.5(275-40-17 front) 17x11(315-35-17 back).

Remember EZss- dynos really don't mean ****, its the track that will tell you the truth. I have seen cars that on the dyno are great but suck at running the numbers- oh Supras come to mind-except for a few.

H/C make/stage: Comp XE-R 224 purchased from Speed Inc.

Head Specs: stock

Cam Specs: 224/224, .581"/.581", 112 LSA, 2 degrees of advance ground in

Dyno Numbers (and location): 361 RWHP with open cutout and unlocked converter, 379.9 RWHP with open cutout and locked converter; first dynoed at what used to be FASTech in Garland, TX and backed up at Speedworks in Lewisville, TX

Best track time (street/radials/nittos) & location: haven't run it at the track on radials

Best track time (slicks) & location: 11.63 @ 114.06 MPH, 1.588 60'; 3,515# raceweight & 1,102' D.A. run at Texas Motorplex May 18, '02

Major Mods (non std): FLP LT's and ORP, 3.73's, Ed Wright tuning, Yank PT4400 converter, ASP crank pulley, free mods, other little stuff

Comments: I'm MORE than pleased with the performance of this setup! I swapped the cam and converter (from Vig 3200 to Yank PT4400) at the same time, and they work VERY well together. I'm amazed at how well the car runs for a street raceweight with stock heads. More than anything, I was shocked with just how streetable the cam is. It has a nice lope at 825 RPM, and it doesn't surge, stall, etc. with the a/c off. I keep it at 825 so I can hear the cam. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I set it at 900 RPM if I'm going to run the a/c, and everything is great. I'm shooting for 11.40's with stock heads and a raceweight of 3,450+#. I plan to add a set of heads over the winter and chase some 10.90's.

I do have a sheet at home, I would have to look for it though. When I find it I can make a copy and mail it to you if you want. Email me with your address. My home email is SCORPIONRACING@prodigy.net

Don't forget, no dyno is the same. I asked Mike @ Rapid about all the guys posting 400+RWHP with a cam like the 224 cams and such. He said he has installed many of those cams and only gets 350-360RWHP. He said the dyno he uses (dynojet) does tend to be a bit on the low side, but not 50-60RWHP off. Some tuners play the number games. All they have to do is punch a different rear gear ratio(2.73 rather then the real 4.10)and you will get a higher rear-wheel HP. Anything on the net I take with a grain of salt. Don't believe everything you read. I am not saying everyone is lieing but merely I only fully believe HP numbers when I actually see the car go down the track.
