Budget Shrtblock is it possible? Hey guys I was wondering how to go about building a budget shortblock? I know nothing is cheap, as cars are en expensive hobby!! But I like my Nitrous and am tired of being worried about it blowing up. I want to stay with an aluminum block, would like to stay around 348 ci, be around 12 to 1 compression, nice size cam ( I like big ones, with nice choppy Idle), I would be using my factory heads for now but have them cleaned up, already have springs good for .650 lift, Using a Fast 90/NW90 TB. Car is light to should be around a 3200 raceweight. As far as size of shot I would like to run a 200 shot wet kit, as I already have the TNT Twister Force 2 kit. I am a 6spd car, with a spec stage 4 clutch, and I will have a S60/9" here very soon just deciding which to get but will have a 4.30 gear. The car has a full drag style susp. front and rear QA1 coilovers, Spohn T/A, LCA, PHB, all adj. also, Prostars all around with some 28X10.5 et drags for the track and BFG drag radials for the street 275/60/15s. I would like to run mid 10s on motor and some where in the 9s on spray.

Yeah I think my block should be fine. The 1300 for parts isn't to bad though, how much does machine work cost if needed for a small over bore if needed? The LS1 cranks hold up well don't they?

He probably should get a LS6 block too. Tack on an additional $600 for that new. New at TSP for around 600, used is cheaper.
