Default ZERO OIL PRESSURE! again, what to do?

Upon startup this morning my oil pressure never moved off zero. I shut it off and restarted it several times with no change.

This engine has about 38k miles on it. I am assuming it's the oil pump. Is there anything else I should check first? sending unit?

Who should I order a modded pump from?

Have you done any work on the engine before the 0 pressure?( Ie...messing with stuff behind the intake manifold?) It's possible it's just the sending unit. Try that first because it's easier and less expensive than replacing the pump.

Other than that.....QUIT STARTING IT!!! LOL....

Yes,
I installed ported heads about a month or so ago.

Where exactly is the sending unit? How can I check it to make sure that it's not the problem.

I am still guessing it's the pump, since it quit at startup, just like all the rest of the pumps have quit.

I'm betting it's the sensor, since there was no movement of the needle at all and you did work on the motor a little time ago.

I'm guessing you smacked the sensor behind the intake manifold and now it's causing a latent failure.

Go get the part number that Nasty C5 gave you buy a sensor socket from AutoZone, take off the intake, look for a tall vertical black cylindrical sensor screwed into the block and swap it.

I would rather try that first than to go through the pain of changing pumps just to have it not be the culprit.

What parts/tools are needed for a mechanical oil pressure test? Is there a standard pressure gauge available that will thread into where the sending unit goes?

Or how can the oil pressure sending unit be checked/tested?

Well it was the friggen pressure relief in the oil pump. It was stuck open.

I removed the oil filter and spun the engine over with the ignition disabled. No oil came out, which would verify that the oil pressure sending unit was not faulty and that I actually had zero pressure.

Good thing I went ahead and ordered a Katech pump.
