Default Oil Pressure Question

When I see "XXpsi" on my guage, is that a measure before, or AFTER the filter? What I mean is, if it is measured BEFORE the filter, then a more restrictive filter will actually SHOW higher oil-pressure on the guage, if it is AFTER the filter, it will show lower pressure the more restrictive it is. I just dont know what the case is.

Oil pressure is regulated by a relief pressure valve in the oil pump. There is a bypass system before the filter which shuts the filter off once pressure raises. A different filter will have no effect on your pressure readings. Your oil really only goes through the filter at idle and really low steady rpm anyway.
