Simple Question re: Mounting LS1 on a Stand
I just pulled my 98 LS1 from my wrecked Formula. Mounted it on a 4-point engine stand with bolts of the same pitch/diameter as the bell housing bolts but about 4" long to thread through the stand and all the way into the engine threads. However, the bolts are metric grade 8.8 (similar to english grade 5, I'm told).
Are the metric 8.8 grade bolts sufficient to hold the engine weight? I've got it propped up now but am concerned about shearing the bolts and finding my engine on the floor one day.
If not, where can I find stronger bolts (comming up short here in Little Rock).
Thanks!

Hi, I don,t think the LS1 is heavy enough to break one of those bolts much less four of them. I have used no grade bolts to hold a big block with iron heads several times with no problem. Jimmy
I used 4 stage 10's to hold mine..
I wasn't worried abou the bolts, I got worried about the stand when I had everything put back on the motor. Had to have been at a 20* angle!

You must have a week stand!! We have 3 different stands with engines on them right now, a couple of standard 350's with everything still on them, and then the 498 big block for my turd gen All of them are just using standard non graded bolts...
