ASA heads
Jason
I'll email Nicky Fowler who is more senior and see what he says... Hang tight...
I'm guessing the heads are high compression but that's all I can think of, wasn't LPE doing them for GM?

John,
Sorry I was out of town last week and this has been a short week for me
trying to get caught up.
ASA LS1 cylinder heads are GM part number 12480109. These heads were
assembled at the plant by GM and were specifically made for the ASA Racing
Series. They are stock production LS1 cylinder heads with the following
changes;
They are the first cylinder heads to actually have "LS6" valve springs.
These are the 2001 version, though all the springs installed on these
cylinder heads have a dark orange and green stripe. The paint code was
changed to blue at a later date to prevent confusion at the factory. It is
possible that some 12480109 heads might actually have blue springs, but I
have never seen any. FYI, stock LS1 springs have a cream (or light tan)
colored stripe. Maximum lift is 0.525" for the ASA head.
According to GM Racing, the ASA head used a different spring shim. They say
it is a heat-treated shim. All the ASA heads that I have seen, this shim
looks exactly the same as the stock shim, but looks do not tell anything
about the hardness of the material.
There are no other changes that I am aware of on the ASA head. It is a
stock LS1 head with '01 LS6 springs and a heat-treated shim. They are no
longer available from GM. We still have some in stock at SDPC and at $685.00
a pair they are really bargain for fully assembled heads LS1 heads. I have
included our flow numbers for reference.

CNC LS1 cylinder heads are GM part number 25534321. These are fully CNC
ported and the decks have been milled approximately 0.040" to bring the
combustion chambers down to 61cc's. The development work was done by GM
Racing and the contract for CNC porting was provided by Lingenfelter
Performance Engineering. This head was developed for the Showroom Stock and
World Challenge racing series. It is no longer available from GM, just as
the ASA head is no longer available!
This head uses the 2001 LS6 springs and they are color coded blue. Same as
the ASA head, 0.525" is the maximum valve lift. All other components are
stock LS1. We have only two sets left and for LS1 Tech members only we are
going to offer these heads at the price of $1379.00 a pair. Great buy! Flow

ASA PCM part number #12480054 was calibrated specifically for the ASA
camshaft (#12480110), the 3800-V6 supercharged injectors (#24508208), manual
transmission, no EGR, no AIR, no Cats, and one set of O2 sensors! Everyone's
definition of streetable is different! If my wife says she can't put her
make-up on because the idle is too rough and it blurs her vision in the
mirror -- then it is streetable! I have driven several cars with this
calibration and yes it sounds like a Hot Rod. Idles at about 1000rpm, never
less than that. The calibration is really set-up for all out racing, but in
my opinion it is very streetable. The throttle tip-in is fine and the A/C
worked in all the cars that I have driven. Several people have purchased
these PCM's and tried to use the stock fuel injectors -- that will not work!
The V6 supercharged injector has approximately a 40lb/hr rating. There are
definitely people who would not like this combination, but that is what
keeps all of us in business!

Why did GM d/c these heads? DO they have a replacement planned?

This is a part from GM Racing. These are under continuous R&D. Also, they fulfilled their contract to ASA. As far as you and I concerned, the replacement is the new fully assembled 2002 LS6 cylider head which should be available within the next 30 days. I will keep you posted.
