Default Blown Motor????

All right guys, help me out on this one.

I was driving my car off a redlight and going through the gears pretty hard. Didnt hit the shift light but was pretty high in the rpm's. When I went to bang 4th or 3rd???? There was a loud exhaust bang or backfire if you will, the engine died completely and I rolled of to the side of the road. Upon trying to restart there was nothing. It felt like no compression at all. All you could hear was the starter and nothing else. The engine didnt even turn. Also my MTI CLear Lid was filling with steam and there was a really strange smell from under the hood. I am thinking either I snapped the flywheel bolts and it came off (I have had flywheel come loose 3 times until recently). Or I snapped the timing chain. I am worried that I killed the valves and valve guides or worse. I have not been in the block yet but will update when I do. In the meantime what do you guys think? Thanks

You may have just blown a head gasket. Don't get to discouraged until you get into the block.

When you could hear the starter, was it just making a noise or actually turning?

If you engine is not turning over, then you are either not getting the starter to the flywheel or else it is seized up.

It could be a broken timing chain or something gernaded in the engine, though I hope it is nothing that serious. Since I have never seen a flywheel come off, I don't know how it would behave when that happened.

checked two cyclinders so far, both 0 compression. Flywheel is turning, also valves are moving. Cant hear anything mechanically wrong. Going further in this week. Start at the timing chain. I might have actaully snapped my camshaft <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
