Default Lifter/guides Failure *pics*

Never got a chance to post this here, but this was a lifter failure from Mid Ohio. This is my second failure, both of which we THINK were caused by the bad batch of lifter guides (the plastic things) that were cast causing the lifter to ride at an angle on the cam.

Just a heads up. From what I can tell, all of the bad ones were cast from mold "10", so check them if you ever have them out.

btw, this is from my World Challenge corvette, running the .575 "Gib" GM cam up to around 7200 rpm.

I had a lifter failure. My guide was broken too. It was mold 12 (I think, only number I could find). You know the part # for the guide?

thanks for the heads up.

From what I understand, ONLY #10 molds are subject for concern, and only a very few of them. You should be able to visibly see the defect in the guide. As I understand it, it is very unlikely that a street lifter would ever fail due to this, but if you run your car under extreme (non warrantee) conditions, it is possible. From what I can gather, there were just a few of these guides used in 2001 engines, and should not be of any concern for most owners. BTW, both of my experiences were in 2001 LS6 engines, but I don't know if the same sourcing is used in the LS1.
