Default Timing Chain Install (Haynes Manual)

The Haynes Manual says, "Timing chains must be replaced as a set with the camshaft and crackshaft sprockets. Never put a new chain on old sprockets."

It seems like a high percentage of us are replacing only the chain when doing a cam swap. Why can't you put a new chain on old sprockets? Is their advice for damaged chains only?

As long as the teeth on the spocket are good and show no wear, you will be OK.

IMO the chain is a pain in the *** to change. If I was in their id certainly do the sprockets also! My 02!

Well how much would the sprockets cost?
