Thanks to Nicky at SDPC for the part numbers! <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />
GM has made available head gaskets alone without all the unnecessary components the full gasket kit came with. The part numbers represent a pair of head gaskets. I had my parts person call today and none were available for shipment, but I was told these are being released very shortly.
12498543 - 1997-2001 LS1 (2001 LS6 included?!)
12498544 - 2002-2003 LS1/LS6
The year of the cylinder heads being installed is what I would go by for the gaskets required. The 1997-2001 LS1 cylinder heads have a notch on the deck surface of the head that leak coolant externally when using the "newer" steel shim type gasket. Both year model replacement LS6 heads we looked at did not have that notch in the heads, so it can probably be a safe bet that if you have LS6 heads you can use the newer GM steel shim type gaskets. Both styles of gaskets I've measured have been .055" compressed thickness after teardown FYI also.
