H/C or S/C?

Re: H/C or S/C? My vote for H/C. There is not that big of a HP gap anymore between the good H/C packages and the "safe" (low boost) forced induction packages.
I think the only sensible LS1 S/C applications are those in which the motors are built around the S/C ie. the compression is dropped, built bottem, etc... Running a S/C on an otherwise stock LS1 I don't think is a safe enough gamble for the average tuner/hot-rodder.

MMS has a package that cost $5899.95 for 135 + hp(inc is lid,cylinders,cam,slp headers
with Y pipes and cats,LS6 intake,underdrive pully,160* stat,custom programing).Are there better combos out there?

Re: H/C or S/C? I would also say H/C because you dont have to rely on pumps, lines, and pressure to supply you with power, or worry about anything going wrong with any of them and cause any other problem.
I have a question snce 99SSRagTop asked that question, i was always a fan of NA, but how many of you H/C guys on this site have nitrous, making it a NA/ power adder type setup...or did H/C so you can do nitrous?

I expect about 80rwhp from my heads/cam combo ....(it is a good size cam...TR 230)

Re: H/C or S/C? Actually the MMS package is a really good deal. It includes EVERYTHING! This includes tuning, the heads, induction lid, exhaust,ported TB, headers, tuning...EVERYTHING! Obviously if you already have some of the ancillary parts required the price will decrease. MMS has one of the fastest H/C cars around. They really know the importance of putting together cobinations that are both cost effective and performance oriented.

Re: H/C or S/C? I could take out the cam, (have an 01 ls6cam in now)MAF and lid so the price would come down.I just like the idea of no extra spinning parts (S/C) to pop.My mind has been flipping back and forth lately.
Install would be OK for I have an ex GM tech that has worked on my motor before.

Hey Chris I have a friend with a 96 Camaro at ARE that has had a few problems getting it dialed in(head gasket issue).Hope they get it working fine for him.I think it is a 383 with a blower.

Re: H/C or S/C? if you are going to stay with the small LS6 cam you have now, get Joe Prince (JPR) ported heads. He is one of the few that ports heads for smaller cam cars. Additionally SLP headers are ideal for smaller cam cars.
You might consider going with Agostino Racing (ARE). They are in Ontario and if you go there they could install and dyno tune the whole package for you. Their stage 1 heads would be fine with the LS6 cam or slightly bigger cams.
I would plan on getting atleast a 220/220 cam if you are going spend this much $$$

I'm not sure if 400 at the wheels was a number that Joe got out of his package but it would be a nice # to see that hp.

Re: H/C or S/C? I believe Joe has gotten as high as 417 at the wheels with his stage I heads and a 218 cam. JPR is great bang for the buck. I have a set of heads over there as we speak.
Re: H/C or S/C? The MAC Cats suck. If you buy MACs, buy w/o the Y-Pipe and pick up some random tech cats and have a good Y-Pipe made. Expensive, but probably 10 HP in a custom Y-Pipe vs the MAC POS.
Re: H/C or S/C? About 2 yrs ago Matt G got a video of him and a Vortec car racing on the highway. Matt romped all over that SC'd LS1 with his 3 yr old MTI heads/cam setup, it was gross..We need to find that video <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
