Default all who have hotcam in a4 no tuning!

istalling hotcam this week in a4, no tuning. With a little bit of jerry-rigging i'm positive i can get it to idle.

Ideas---
-Drill tb 1/64 at a time
-turn tb screw
-hell, just pull iac plug when idle jumps to 1000 at startup!
-shim bumpstop

Not to conserned with idle codes, pulled iac at 1000 rpm last week and car idled all week rock solid with no codes. normal idle is 500-650.

any definite fixes besides programming?, any proven ghetto combos? Thanks!

With the drilled TB and adjusting the screw you should be fine....

Burnout-
You'll be fine. I recently got tuning done, but I was running with the HotCam (I have an A4, too) with the idle screw adjusted and the hole in the throttle blade drilled to 15/64. Oh, just make sure you take the idle screw out and put in upside down so it'll be easier to adjust if needed...Oh and be prepared to get the electrical tape to cover the SES light that'll come on no matter how many times you reset the PCM from all the misfiring! Good luck...Despite what most say, the Hot Cam is a good bang for the buck cam. B4 tuning, I've trapped at 112 mph with street tires (other mods are only 3.73's, MAC's w/ORY and a whisper lid). Not bad for a Cali car...Later

Hotcam... A4 this can and has been done.

Starting out 13/64" on the hole in throttle blade,
drive about 50 miles.. ( dont like it ?? )
drill to 15/64 ( dont like it )
( never ever more than 17/64 and only in emergency or last resort at 17/64 )

try adding a .025" shim on top of the stock setting
of the idle set screw.
( you will have to lift up the part that moves the butterfly valve to see it )
Doing this without messing with the screw will give you a place to return to ( known value ) . Dont worry about throwing codes right now , getting the idle where you want it is more important. IF you put
in a shim to thick say .035 then you will throw HIGH IDLE codes. This shim I speak of I created a clip that fits perfect on the thottle idle stop bar. ( made it from some tin at home-depot 26 gage?? )
After you get something you like then drive it 50miles or so.. and let the pcm learn the setup.
if its working great then test like this.
(1.) start car , drive for more than ten minutes
(2.) if you can come to a stop light with AC on max
and it doesnt die .. you have it.

sometimes I have to go more than 15 minutes before
I can get at idle with ac on.
I have noticed with HOT weather this becomes harder to do..

hotcam+lid+catback ( stock cats & y-pipe )
330/330
added SLP lt kit ( headers,cats,y-pipe)
351/364

I have heard of people going to 1/4" on A4 to get it to idle. But it works!!

Also I thought that if you set the screw it only raises the idle temp. After awile the PCM and TPS adjust and lower it back down?

I was just talking to another "Hot" cam m6 that only made around 340 RWHP till he got the AF right and then it went to 380 something

40 hp for a few hours on a wide band is definetly wirth the $$. maybe seems to me this might be were the lack of performance is comming from the hot cam.

The feedback I am getting from all the PM's on successfull hot cam installs are 12.8-13.to 1 AFR all the way across the curve.

Good Luck.
PM me with the results if you don't mind.
