Yeah, Sarawatari kicked butt. He is actually a nice guy too. Very unlike Tony Fuchs! LOL

I am going to try and talk to Nick when they get back into the office of the 8th. I just want to make sure that what I was reading on the boards was true before I took any action. Nick has been hella cool with me so maybe I'll get lucky and get the new heads. I would like to talk with some of the other guys that are/were having problems similar to me. If you know any of their screen names could you message me with them? I'll try doing a search also. Thx bro.

Default Remove my heads/cam?

I had yet another crappy day at the track, even after I got a tranny that works in my car.

My question is. I installed a set of Stage2 heads (2.05valves) and a 222/.534/112 cam in Dec sometime. With that combo and a lil tuning I only made 356RWHP unlocked. After talking with the manufacture I changed out the cam to a 226/234-.554/.575-112 because it would better match my TC (PT-4400). When I redyno'd I only gained 1hp, we then locked the TC and netted a 367rwhp!! WOO HOO!

I have run it numerous times at the track and my best was an 11.86@114 1.58 60'. Keep in mind that my cars race weight is only around 3400lbs w/ me in it.

I don't think my heads are flowing what they should be and really want to have them checked out but before I spend the money to do this I wanted to see what you guys think.

Also, if the heads come off, then so is this cam, I really don't like it's drivability compared to all these smaller cams that make the same if not more power.

Any opinions or advice for me?

Ohh, I have my mod list on a plain webpage, just click in my sig.

Get in contact with ARE and tell them your heads arent performing and they should send you a new set.I had read a previous post about a guy doing this because like you he wasnt getting the power he wanted out of his setup. This seems to be happening a lot with Nick's heads but at least he will remedy the problem.Oh yeah and the guy picked a butt load of HP with Nick's new head design. The hardest part will be to get a hold of them.Oh yeah nice stang and I wish I could of saw Adam Sarawatari win that event in 98.He is my favorite race car driver.

If your car dyno tuned? What are you shifting at? What are wanting to see happen?

I went 11.66@116mph with H/C/I/converter/full exhaust/4.10's and that was without dynotuning... You are not far off, also keep in mind shift points are important.

Heya,

I did some minor tuning to get the AFR correct but no extra timing or anything. I had 28deg and my AFR was right around 12.2 or so which is little rich but not enough to lose 30+hp IMO.

It's not like my car is really heavy or anything either. I just don't understand how I nothing I seem to do will add anymore power.

I also don't want to spend tons of money to have someone else tune it then turn out the heads are bad and I'm out even more money than when I had to replace the cam.

Just not sure what to do now..

12.2:1 is kind of rich and I think frankly some of the big dyno sheets that some folks are putting up are at 13:1 AF...

What do you run at the track?

Are you just after a certain number on the dyno?

True True,

I am now shifting near 6400rpm.

I really could care less about the dyno, I actually hate it (broke 2 tailshafts which let to a broken trans last few times)

All I care about is my 1/4 mile times and how it feels on the street. It is kinda dissapointing at anything above 50mph.

My best time ever with this combo was an 11.86@114.5 1.58 60' on the old trans in about 60deg temps.

This last time out I got an 11.90@113.5 1.65 60' but I am having electrical problems at the moment and my timing was dropping to 19-22deg and the tranny was acting really weird with all the wierd signals I could only guess were comming from the PCM.

I was just really concerned that my MPH seemed really low for my mods but then I don't know how many of the high MPH guys pad their #'s by locking the TC and such during the run. What do you think?

Here is a copy of my dyno sheet before I got the air/fuel straightend out some so it was at least more level. This was without the TC locked.

I made 369RWHP with ARE S2 heads and a 224/224 .560" 114LSA cam (TR 224). I have a M6 C5 with 3.42s. Hit a 114.5mph trap speed. It's kind of strange that you aren't getting much better performance from your 226/234 cam. I'd give Nick a call back, if you can ever get a hold of him. I've been trying to get a hold of him for more than 2 weeks, and it's not like he doesn't have my # or email.

We need to establish some sort of standard for posts like this... What is attainable with your mods... That is the question.

ET: Well, 11.4-11.7
MPH: 116-119mph

In my opinion, I think that a car with:

Heads,
stage II cam,
full exhaust,
stall converter,
slicks'n and skinnies,
and some gear out back,

At stock weight should be able to hit 11.5@118mph... That is my standard.

Think about how many local A4 cars go 115-118mph, well all the fast ones do. 120mph or faster is more rare.

I'd say for an M6, I'd say 11.4-11.7@117-120mph is doable, seen it done many times.

John
422ci ARE
11.1@120mph
(should be 10.7@126mph )

Because I am lame and didn't want to try installing them myself for fear of jacking something up.

Now, if you want to come down here, port me up a set of MAGIC Jantzer heads and help me install em then I'm sure we could work somethin out.
