How many guys have took the oil pump off with just dropping the pan, and let it set on the k-member, replace the pump, and put the oil pan back on, and not have it leak. I am doing a H/C swap, and i want to replace the pump, but i don't want to drop the pan, put it back together and have a leak. Also if i take the oil pump and replace it how hard is it to put a new timing chain in as well?
tons of people have, including myself. And mine doesnt drip a bit. just be careful when tightening it back up because the threads in the pan are known to strip very easily. As for the timing chain, you will have to take off the cam gear, and then the chain will slide right off without the pump on. Its no big deal to take the cam gear off, just three bolts. but make sure you line up the cam and crank gear dot-to-dot when putting in back on.
Well the cam is out of the car, i just can't decided what to do, then i can start putting it back together, i am just worried that the pan will leak oil. As far as the timeing chain there is some play in it, do you think i should replace it?

not sure if these are one seal for rear crank shaft but if it was not leaking before, chances u didn't tq tha oil pan correctly, hand tighten'd them or pinch'd o-ring. either way u will need to remove pan and inspect o-ring, then determined what u gotta fix and how.

Its a cake walk. Just put a small dab of black sealant on all 4 corners of the pan. Do the front 2 corners when you put the timing cover back on.

The car only has 38,000 miles on it. I mean i am this far, i could just pull the block, and do it with the motor out of the car besides i have to put a stall converter in as well. I don't know what to do. Money is big factor here because i go to school full time, and i make dogshit at my job. Its hard to build a fast car when every penny you have goes to it, and barely make car paymet at the end of the month. Its expensive, but its my hobby, and its what i love doing.
Listen here....you dont need to totally remove the pan....losen the bolts so the pan hangs about a half an inch. Use a 10mm gear wrench(10 bucks at sears) to undo the pickup tube on the bottom of the pump. Unbolt the pump, slip in a new one...Use white greese on your new oil pick up O-ring. Tighten a lil more than hand tight, then retighten all the pan bolts a little more than snug. There will be no leaks. Its simple, my 01 oil pump failed...so I wouldnt risk not changing it...just use a stock LS6 pump. $75

as stated above you just need to lower the pan not take it all the way off. very easy to do it. ive done my fair share of them even in on my friends 67GTO with an ls1 which the pan was even closer the the crossmemeber. just dont let it eat ya up and itll be a cake walk. and make sure you dont pinch the new oring 
the oilpan gasket is reuseable so just a tad of RTV at the corners where the front and rear covers are is all you need
as for a chain. again as said above LS2 chain is all you need and cheap.
both should be changed while you're in there thats a defiente .
