Default quaker state synthetic?

It's about .50 cheaper at walmart than the others.

Looking for opinions, yeah or nay?

Quaker State is also known as "Quaker sludge" at several shops because it's been known to cause sludge build up in motors. QS uses perifin(sp?) wax in their oils which can and will cause build up..

I use Penzoil's synthetic "Pensane". It's been the best out of Valvoline, Mobil, and Castrol for my car..

There is almost no wax now in modern oils, so it's not even a concern now. None of the oils mentioned in this thread are real synthetics anymore. Valvoline, Pennzoil and Quaker State all use a group 3 hydrocracked base oil. So you're paying synthetic oil prices for what basically boils down to dino oil. Most $1 oil now comes with a group II+ base oil anyways, so it is very close to the group 3 but at a way cheaper price. So if you want a real synthetic, you have to go with Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1 or Royal Purple's race oils.

The new formula in fact still uses the same base oil as before, which is mostly PAOs with a little bit of esters. It's the additive package (antiwear mainly) that changed.

For me, I would NEVER use "Quaker Cake". I have seen motors that run that oil and it was not pretty. I am very anti-Quaker State. And about Mobil 1, I will find out what is different between the new and old b/c my dad is a VP of Exxon/Mobil. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
