Cali. Guys/Anyone with Smog Knowledge
So the thing is I have to stay smog legal . The old man says it's his car (I haven't paid it off yet) and he wants it to stay smog legal. I live in California so the limits are a bitch...Everything I have so far is in the sig.
Here is what I want to do... Which will pass smog...
1) 228R 114 lsa
2) TR 224/224 112 lsa
3) TR 224/244 114 lsa
1 & 2 I kind of doubt will pass
but
3 should pass right?

exactly...you can probably find a spare PCM for a few hundred on ebay or here.
the LSA affects where the power peak. the lower the LSA the earlier it tends to make power.
it also has an affect on emissions.
the 112s probably won't pass...the 224 114 should pass with minimal problems on a proper tune

All of those cams can pass emissions (with cats), just the first one will need the tune to be very precise around 1500-2000 rpms under load. And no, if your tuner is very good, you will not need two tunes. One tune will get the job done. Where are you located by the way?
Oh, and this is if you can get them to look the other way for the visual portion of the test.

Ive never heard of a 228 passing ca smog. Synergy can get their 226 single pattern to pass smog, but thats as big as ive seen. The 224 112 has have problems, it's either hit or miss, but ive never seen the 224 114 fail. My firned has it and his car passes fine.

i dunno about 1.. But 2 is possible! With a good tuner.. But im not sure how much power you would have to sacrifise. 3 Is a very good choice you cannot go wrong and get lots of power! I have choice 3 going into my car soon, I know many people with the 224 224 114LSa and have had no problems passing but i know people have had the 224 112LSA pass as well.. So its up to you make a gamble and go 112 or play it safe and make the same power and go with the 114.
