Default Recommendations for a Short block?

After a nice hack job by GM installing my 01 "fixed" incorrectly, I need a new bottom end. Its out of warranty now and GM points the fingers at racing and mild bolt ons as the cause of course... So far the options im looking at:
1) LS6 long block minus accessories
2) ARE 360 Stroker short block
3) MMS 347 nitrous motor short block w/ 224/224 cam

All are within a couple hundred bucks of each other and im guessing performance will be similar. Heads on the 360 or 347 will be stock for now until I get the cash for stage IIs... Benifits of the LS6 are its GM spec, and never touched internally, so I know it wont have problems... the 360 will run great N/A and the nitrous motor will handle my nitrous fetish. What are your opinions? Or am I better off just fixing the engine I have? I have talked to 2 shops and both say I will have to machine the block, change the crank and rings and possibly the pistons to make it work... What do you all think??

It all depends on how much you want to spend! FWIW I would look into a 402cid or 408cid shortblock using the 6.0L block (4" bore, 4" stroke forged internals). You can build those for close to $6000 or so. The LS6 longblock is what $5000 already, why not go the little extra! FYI using the Lunati kit, it will take that little N20 you want a whole lot better than the LS6 could.

Just curious, what exactly happened again with the dealer? Did they replace your engine before warranty ran out or right after?

2001 LS1s (pre - feb '02 build) being silverados, vettes and FBodys were all recalled for bad rings. I had an oil consumption problem and was told the ring fix would take care of it. Soon as the rings are replaced the oil consumption got worse... dealerships way out was "wait 10K miles for the rings to break in properly" which put me VERY close to my warranty ending... After finding pools of oil in my MAF and TB I concluded that the PCV was injecting oil into the manifold at a high rate so I did the breather mod... Soon as I put it on it was blown off by smoke and oil coming through the breather... so I put two screws in it thinking that was normal. Open the hood the next day cause of smoke to find the passanger side of the engine bay covered in oil, as well as the manifolds making it smoke. Once again, pools of oil in the TB and MAF after only 1 day, so I removed the entire PCV system and ran breathers on each valve cover, then sealed the system... both breathers poured out smoke and oil covering the engine once again. Then one day while driving smoke started pouring out the exhaust, car started running rough, and SES light threw up codes for MAF low voltage and cylinder #5 misfire. I replaced the MAF and it still throws the code so I dont understand that one, maybe the oil confusing the O2s? Anyways, cylinder #5s plug was covered in oil so I am guessing that is the bad cylinder. I got a lawyer to chase GM and try to get either help fixing it or get the rings replaced, however I do not trust the dealerships techs to do the labor, this isnt the first time they have done something wrong to my car, or my friends cars for that matter. Basically im expecting them to tell me to get lost since the service manager wont return my calls and screens them when he is there. Thats why im looking to get a somewhat inexpensive short block or crate engine that is pre-built... I just dont trust techs anymore and I dont have the time to do the engine myself.

Sorry... long story... anyways what would you take between a N20 motor or a ARE 360? Or if MTI has anything they sell either, im not too up to date on the short blocks. The reason I like the LS6 is there is no room for install error since it is 100% assembled. Im a nitrous junkee though and tend to go through bottles fast which is why I want the nitrous motor with the 224 cam, but then again Gay excuses like "you need nitrous to win" is pushing me towards the ARE 360 just so I can have the power off the bottle as well.

Anyone with experience played with any short blocks in the 3500-5K range or long blocks in the 4K-6K range that hold up pretty well?

MORE sells their 348 forged shortblock for $4299 using your block. $600 more if they supply the block. Not too bad imo.

Im thinkin my block might be shot cause the rings are toasted... Im leaning towards the LS6 engine so far. I can safely spray a 150 and dig some low 11s with that setup
