Default NEED HELP....NEW CAM, WON'T IDLE

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> Just finished installing the Ls1 HotCam and Mac headers(with no EGR or air pump brackets). I turned off the associated codes and raised the idle to 850 in park and it still won't idle. It does for a little bit but it is very aratic and if you give it some gas, the moment you let off it falls back down the rpm and dies. Any body have any ideas of what to do. Do i still need to drill out the TB hole? Need some advice. Thanks, James.
rest of stuff is in sig.

Yes drill hole larger, and raise idle stop setting slightly.Hot restarts are what should dictate your final idle speed adjustments.

One thing that helped me get a smoother idle with the TR224@112 cam was to add more base spark advance. For the 800 and 1200 rpm blocks on the first two rows I bumped it up to 25 degrees. I have an M6 though. Give it a try and see if it works for your A4.

I would not recomend adjusting the idle position screw any. Just play with the hole by drilling it bigger only. If you play with the screw, you will wind up messing up your tranny shift points and your tranny will not shift all the time correctly. I went through this already with my hotcam.

get atap and monitor your IAC's. Im tuning mine in slowly and its getting a little better. I think i need to add some timing though like said above. But if you drill your hole to much u will get a SES light. 20-40 is best

some guys had to go close to 0 to get there's to idle though... but u dont want to get a ses by drilling to much!!!

i had to set mine idle at 900 also

224/224 .563 114 cam

I recently helped out on a 02 ls1 cam upgrade and had trouble with idle afterwards. I found out that the crankcase ventilation hose on the right valve cover was cracked and receives manifold vacuum. After repairing it with about 4" of 3/8 tranmission hose the problem went away. As of 8-10-02 there is still not a part number in GM's computers for this either. Just a thought. Check it out.

Well drilling the hole bigger worked, as i have got it to idle at 800rpm in gear. Every once in a while it surges when i'm slowing down but all i have to do is stick it in nuetral for a second and its fixed. I now have another question: how do i get the torque converter to lockup now? And also the rpms want to stay where they are when i let off the gas. It doesn't want to idle down now. I have to put on the brakes for it to decrease in speed(kinda feels like when you have on the cruise control). Any ideas. Thanks again, james. p.s. this thing sure is choppy and pulls really good and i liike it!!

with my 01 M6 I added a .022" shim on top
of the idle set screw ( 26 gauge tin I think )
and my throttle blade is drilled to 15/64"
I would not go to 17/64" unless real emergency
that size is uncommon.

if it hasn't relearned and cured most of those problems yet you need to put that LS1 edit to use.

Well i still need some help with the TC lock-up. What temp settings do i mess with or whatever i do to change the mis-fire detection. Also it has started surging when i slow down, right before i come to a stop. It worked fine for a day or so then last night it started again. Do i need to open the hole in the TB up more? It is at 7/32 right now. I really need some help on this, anyone. Thanks, James.

Alright...i drilled it out a little more and it idles good now....when stoping it surges by maybe 50-100rpms twice before i come to a complete stop. This will probably get a little better but i am satisified. I'm sure i can fine tune the rest with edit later. Thanks to all who replied, james.
