It does look like a small piece of thread to me. It could also be the locking ring for the rocker trunion also.

I just threw a rocker on an M1 oil container I have.... no way it's the lock. That is too small.

It looks to be the size of a rocker trunion. But I've never really seen a retainer out before. So I don't really know either.

It does not look like a thread shaving.

Chances are I hope this is just under the valve covers, didnt get to it today but will know tomorrow. Yes it does sound louder on crank up, more valvetrain noise, not all the time however. Hoping that I won't have to get into the bottom end; talked to several people and they couldn't think of anything that small there.

Someon mentioned that the it looks like a lock for a piston pin...The stock pistons use a press fit pin not a full floating pin that requires locks...

Here is the answer gentlemen and good news! I remember cutting a helicoil kit several times and each time i cut that **** would fly all over the garage, looks like one of them landed in the head! DUH

Hopefully it didn't damage anything on its way from the head to the oil pan

Thats funny! Totally made the 2 page read worth it...thanks for the laugh bro. I was thinking spiral lock from the beginning but could figure from your mod list you had anything over stock pistons. Good to hear it wasn't something out of the engine. Shwwweeeww!

That could easily fit down the oil returns from what I see. Figure it is on a oil container cap (a big one I know), but that gives you an idea of how small it is.

As far as damaging anything, it is too big to get inbetween a bearing, anh hopefully the magnet caught it before it got to anything else. The pickup has a screen, so that also provides some protection. The worse that I could see happening is if it was slung up by a piston skirt, got inbetween the cam and lifters, etc. Probably none of that happened. Take a good look at the piece and see how beat up it is.

Year you were! I was thinking that too first time I saw it, but for some reason completely forgot I was even messing with the helicoil. It looks just like I tried to snip it in a spot, otherwise its good.

I should have looked at this thread earlier. I knew it was a helicoil as soon as I saw it.

Unless you have a special aluminum magnet most of the block and head parts that fall off wont stick to it

Its amazing how parts like that end up in oil pans and cylinders, always cover stuff up when not in use lol.
