They come in the box that way <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
Seriously though (please don't put me on your
a-hole list for that), if you mean spun bearings,
1) Excessive bearing speed (Read : RPM)
2) Lack of lubrication (Read : Oil)
3) Distortion of rod/rod cap, bolts, etc (Read: RPM, big-time detonation, etc....)
or various deadly combinations of the above, generally resulting in the bearing making metal to metal contact with the crank <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Re: What can cause a stacked rod bearing?
Umm well it could be low oil pressure, low pressure or possibly low oil pressure. But in your case it could be a couple of things like: low oil pressure, no oil pressure or no oil at all.
Ok now I'm done with the sarcasm. Like Plum said... It could have been something to do with the rod/cap clearances or the rod might night have been getting enough oil through the passages in the crank, or you might have had an irregular bearing or crank surface.
I have had these problems before. I didn't pay attention but if you have a stroker motor or have an aftermarket bottom end it might have been time to refresh your bottom end.
I hope I made some sense out of all that.
