Default Re-Torquing Intake After Heat Cycles...

I did heads/cam about a month ago and torqued the intake bolts to 44 in/lbs first pass and 89 in/lbs second pass. I happeded to check a couple of the front bolts today with my torque wrench and they seem pretty loose. With the wrench set on 35 in/lbs, I could tighten them. Should these be retorqued to spec???

Did you use loctite on the bolts? I could see new intake gaskets needing to be retorqued after run for a while too.

No Joseph, I didn't use locktite. I don't think they backed out. I figure the intake settled a little with the heat cycles. I reused the old gaskets. I've heard of people splitting the plastic bosses on the manifold over tightening the bolts. That's why I don't know if I should re-torque them. The bolts on my other car, which have never been loosened take about 75 in/lbs to turn them.

I'll send you a set of new gaskets if you want them. You can probably retorque them and be fine, the factory bolts have loctite on them. I've used air ratchets to tighten up a few and havn't cracked anything yet, so I don't think torqueing anything to inch pounds would hurt.

Keep the gaskets. If I pull the intake again, it will be to put on a LS6, and they come with new gaskets.

I put off the gear install until next Friday night in case I need any parts. My dealer is open til midnight. Are you going to be around if I need some help???

Don't you ever sleep???
