2001 Z06, head & cam?
Here are the guys I'm looking at: MTI, GTP, Cartek, and Katech.
I understand that many of you like MTI and GTP, and so far I've been swayed a bit towards MTI. I will be having a local dealership do the work, so part of my issue is ease of installation.
If I chose MTI, what numbers for heads ###/### @ ###? For cam? I'm thinking stage 2 heads, X1 cam.
MTI Stage 2 Ported Cylinder Heads
X1 Custom Camshaft
I also like what I see on the Cartek website, but is the LS6 stage 2-X Heads combo emissions legal for cali?
Details from the site:
LS-6 - STAGE 2-X HEADS
451 RWHP, 410 RWTQ NORMALLY ASPIRATED WITH "X" CAM
ON A STOCK C.I.D. 346 LS1 AND OTHER MODS.
Hot tank and inspect heads
Velocity mapped runner
Fully ported intake and exhaust runner

Competition 3 angle valve job
Resurface heads to desired compression
Stainless steel undercut valves 2.02 int. / 1.57 exh.
Viton valve seals
Proprietary hi performance dual valve springs for up to .630" lift
Titanium retainers
Set all valve spring pressures and heights
Flow test
Fully assembled cylinder head
Ready to bolt on / core is required
These are just a few, but I'm open to feedback!
Other than results, which of these guys have you had the best/worst experience dealing with? We all love customer satisfaction, but part of this is service.
What I currently have:
'01 Z06, Donaldson blackwing, power duct, TPIS long tube headers (no pup cats).
Can you guys help?
Thanks in advance!

I have never seen CA emissions legal long tube headers for a C5, but I know people are running LT's in CA. I guess they switch them for the emission tests(?). Also, the big cams don’t seem to work well with only shorties. It seems that the mid range goes flat with all of that overlap and no exhaust return pulse and you never see the top end power either. This is a problem. Superchargers may be the answer.
Good luck and let us know what you decide,
Steve

In talking with a few suppliers, each seem to suggest different parts in the H/C package and here's where I could use the advice.
* 30# or more injectors - some say a must, some didn't even suggest?
* intake manifold porting - only 1 suggested, others say LS6 good as is?
* pushrods - only 1 suggested, others didn't even mention?
* ported throttle body - only 1 suggested (in house brand), others didn't even suggest?
* C5R chain and gear set - only 1 suggested (in house brand), others didn't even suggest?
Anything you all think might be missing? Feedback?
Much appreciated!

I would definitely recommend hardened pushrods with a more aggressive cam as well as an upgraded timing chain such as the SLP double roller or a Rollmaster single. A blueprinted oil pump such as the one Katech sells would be nice insurance for $110. Haven't seen much in the way of benefits in porting an LS6 intake. IMO your money would be better spent elsewhere.

<strong>If it were me I'd contact someone like Thunder Racing or MTI directly and get the scoop on a package deal.

I've been told that the stock injectors can produce. Just get a good tune (LS1 Edit and a wide-band O2 dyno should set ya up).
TB: make sure you get a stock ported one. Shaner's S2 looked TOP knotch and performed well IMO.
