Ruined Motor
I put the TR 224 cam and ported heads on my 01' Z28 along with headers, NOS dry kit, and gear. I changed my rev. limiter to 6,800 rpm and thought it would all stay togather. Well at a 4,000 rpm launch i spun a rod bearing and ate up the crank..........my question, is it worth putting heads and cam on your car if you cant spin it that fast or was that a freak accident, and if it is worth it what cam is good to only 6,000 rpm?

Re: Ruined Motor
there are a few weak points in these LS1s...
Oil pump, timing chain and rod bolts to name the big 3. either a faulty oil pump or rod bolt could've caused a spun rod bearing.
Type of oil also has an influence...what thickness were you using...I recommend 10W30 or thicker for higher rpm use

Re: Ruined Motor
Depends on how much money you got to spend and how much you enjoy it. You can race for cheaper in an old muscecar with stout motor for cheaper than an LS1 f-body, but it ain't the same.
