I'm still a little unclear about how to correctly perform a heat cycle.
I'm still not quite sure which is the best way to perform a heat cycle to break in new valvesprings.
From what I have read, it sounds like some people start their car up put it in neutral, and keep the their reved at 2,500 RPM for ten minutes straight. Then they shut off their car and let it cool down for about an hour, then they repeat the same process one or two more times before they drive their car hard.
Other people have done a similur process, but instead of reving it, they have driven around for 10 or 20 minutes with their RPMs at 2500.
Which way is better?
Is is ok to just to drive for 30 minutes between 1500 and 2500 RPMs, then let my car sit for an hour of two, and then drive around for 10 minutes at 2500 RPM? The reason I'm asking this is because I will have a half hour drive home from the shop that puts my cam in, right after the cam is installed
Thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Well, what I did was just drive the car normally for 3 days before beating on it. Gets it up to operating temperature, then completely cold after sitting overnight. I don't think 1-2 hours is ample time for the heads to be completely cooled off. Also IMO, it is very important, regardless of heat cycling or not, that you not beat on the car before it reaches operating temperature.
