Default Anyone with H/C knowledge & experience, Help me out!

Ok guys need some help. I posted this on LS1.com also and I'd like all the opinions I can get.

I've been pondering the idea of getting a stage 2 heads/cam package for my car for a while and lately I've been doing some serious looking on prices and where to get them installed. My goal is simple, I'd like a NA low 12 sec reliable daily driven car. My question is, is heads and cam the answer.

I went down to a local Pontiac dealership yesterday to speak with the servive manager, who I have been friends with for many years, to ask him if he could do the install and what all would be needed. He told me to speak with some of the other guys in the garage because they own modded f-bodies. When I asked them about the H/C they told me its a bad idea on the LS1 (although they all own LT1's.) They said after install its a bitch to get it running correctly if you ever do at all and that doing a H/C package is really only for serious drag racing cars. They gave me some other idea's like 4.10, rocker arms, ported MAF, and Nitrous. (and I refuse to touch Nitrous)

So to get to the point is H/C a safe and reliable mod for a daily driver?

What I was looking into doing was stage 2 heads, cam, pushrods, rocker arms, and obviously the tuning.

Any help and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a lame bunch of mechanics.

LS1 is easier to work on!

I went 11.7 with heads and cam and drove the car crosscountry.

With the right parts and installer a Ls1 heads/cam swap is almost as reliable as your stock motor now...but it will lump a little, but tha't s not problem now is it.

Yep, sounds like a bad bunch. I've helped on and watched many H/C installs and tuning. An LS1 is MUCH easier to work on than an LT1. I have many friends who drive their cars everyday with H/C packages with no problems whatsoever and hardly any difference in fuel economy. I actually drive my car on the street ALOT and the only things stopping me from driving it all the time is 1) race fuel and 2) rain...

I basically have an all out race LS1 with a 248/248 .636 lift solid roller cam that drives like a baby on the street. This was acomplished with hardly any tuning. The only things Geoff has adjusted so far are my idle speed, rev limiter, injector sizing, and gearing.

I say go for it. Give Paul or David a call at Thunder and see what kind of package they will put together for you... I promise you will not be dissapointed.

If all you want is low 12's and since you have an M6 '02 with an LS6 intake and headers, I would say just get a nice high-lift cam like a TR-224 and an ASP pulley and there you go. No need to even port your heads. That would probably impress your LT1 dealership buddies.

If you want 11's, go for the stage 2 full setup IMHO.
