help me with my ls1
I have a 98 firebird that I recently installed the tr 230/224 cam and a set of stage two heads from total engine airflow. I have been trying to find this ticking noise that comes from my engine. The ticking started about 3 monthes after I had the head and cam in, it was on a night that we were out doing alot of racing (probably 5 cars). After we got finished and drove down the street to a quietier area we noticed the ticking(it is alot louder from the pass. side) The ticking starts only when the car gets warmed up and it only ticks after 2500 rpm. I did a research and it seemed like it may be a collapsed lifter so just yesterday I put a set of comp cams aftermarket lifters in, and it is still there. Mechanics that have looked at the car say that it seems like it is in the valve train, but now I have upgraded everything in the valve train except for the rockers. Ive done a compression check and everything is normal there, changed the oil to see if there was any shavings or anything, pushrods are straight rockers are torqued to 22 ft./lbs. I dont know what else it could be im trying to find my tick, I would appreciate any help.

I know on newer models the AIR gaskets can cause that ticking noise if they aren't sealing well, so in theory the EGR could do the same???

i'm sorry i cant help because right now i have the same problem. it just started lastnight after about 8 or 10 runs at the track. i have r.g.r heads and the hammer cam and i thought it was a lifter too because they are stock. some one help us please.....thank you.
It isnt anything simple like a exhaust leak or bolt loose. I have had the heads off of the motor and put new lifters in and the problem is still there. I looked for all the simple things while I was in there. thanks
