How to remove oil pan
My Helmes manual wants me to hoist the engine 3 inches and I have no way of doing this. Can somebody please tell me how to remove the oil pan?
Also, how do you install a lifter once you recover it from your oil pan?

Re: How to remove oil pan
Ive never seen anybody with an ls1 fbody remove the oil pan without hoisting the engine a bit.
You pretty much have to pull the cylinder head off to reinstall a lifter.
BTW, Use magnets next time you swap cams. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: How to remove oil pan
I have not done this to an F-bod, but it has worked. Remove the engine mount bolts and anything that could be effected by raising the engine. Then raise it with a floor jack(use a piece of wood with as much surface area as possible to spread the load, ex 10x10x7/8 plywood) against the oil pan to the desired hieght. Put a block of wood(2x4)in the space between the mounts, lower the jack. This is not as unsafe as it may seem. I did this with my ford 360(really heavy engine) to replace a piston while leaving the engine in the truck. It stayed this way a couple of days, no prob. Good luck. This is a good time to change your oil pump and timing chain, alot easier with the pan off
