Those pushrods sure bend easily. I wouldn't count on the dealer fixing it, being that its not a manufacturers defect with you shifting into 2nd gear accidentally. You can replace them yourself pretty easily. I'll send you a set of stockers if you need them.

At least you didn't swallow a valve. Hey, he completed the race; it sounds like you might not.
If you've bent things in the valve train, it should be quite obvious during the teardown that it was grossly overreved. The might still fix it.
I'd be nice not nasty about trying to get it fixed.
BTW, the manual C5 has a driveshaft'donut' thing to keep it from hitting the tunnel in exactly this circumstance. I've heard that it was added during C5 development when someone (engineer, test driver, whoever) did about what you did.
No truth, as far as I know, thay it was added for magazine writers test drives.
GM knows this can occur. Fess up; tell them it was a one-time mistake. They might fix it.

I have done this miss shift with my cammed and shaved head car, several times with no damage to motor. This surprises me you had all this damage with stock motor? Anyway its too bad your dealer doesnt have someone like me working there, i would be happy to warranty motor and end up with a buildable spare for myself!Good luck and try to blame shifter for malfunction if you have to go head to head with them for warranty.

Mine is being denied due to 'driving habits'. The oil pump failed at 35,600 miles. I'm replacing the motor MY way, and still going after GM through arbitration. May take a year, but I will not back down. You can NOT 'make' an oil pump fail. PERIOD, IT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. Good luck to you. Oh yeah, I don't have 5-8K laying around either but I can't wait around for GM to fix it. Good luck with the wife as well; mine was NOT an easy sell!

You busted it, so I guess you ought to fix it.
I retract my previous advice; it's not for you.
What goes around, comes around, huh?

I had a 2000 SS and I did the same thing. I just took the car in to a dealer, and told them exactly what I did. Two weeks later I had a brand new motor, clutch, and trans in my car free of charge. It was my fault though so if they denied the claim I would not have been suprised.

i hear that but think about it is it realy are or my fault. you would think that it would be made where after somany mph or rpm. you couldnt shift down to say frist or secound. hell they mack me shift from frist to 4th if i dont hit a certin rpm. if i have to fix it myself so be it but dam, they the makers could have and should have made it where it lock secound out at a certin mph rpm combo. IMO{let the flams begin}:}

That's kinda funny, 'cause I was about to crack wise on putting the CAGS lockout where it could do some good - from 3RD to 2nd, rather than 1st to 2nd. Hey, the computer has to monitor all sorts of conditions to force 1st to 4th. Seems it shouldn't be too difficult to define when a 3rd to 2nd downshift is a hazard.
The centering spring in the linkage seems pretty strong, but I wouldn't mind it being stiffer still, so that I had to muscle the lever to the left for first and second. Bet this would make the 2-3 shift easier, too. Even so, I haven't had so much trouble lately, now that I've gotten used to the shifter and practiced, practiced, practiced.
And as for skipped shifts, I find many more situations where the skip from third to sixth is advantageous. I'm defeating the CAGS as frequently as I can around town, and still getting great city mileage - wonder if the voluntary skip has anything to do with it.
Anyway, the point seems to be that whether you cop to it or not, chances are good that the dealer's gonna know what happened. We have had one example in this thread where honesty paid off, so you might not have much to lose by trying...
because ultimately, to answer your question, when we miss shifts, it kinda is our fault.

Re: miss shift with m6 help bad noises from car now
I have pulled the infamous 3-to-2 a couple of times myself. Thankfully nothing severe happened, but I could hear a rattling/ticking afterwards, so I think I tweaked some pushrods.
In any event, I took the car in today to have some warranty work done (on the stereo), and gently approached the subject with the service writer... I asked him what the chances were that the pushrods could be checked/replaced if necessary; his response?? "There's a pretty good chance of that. <g>"
Turns out that he is an enthusiast and has a couple of hopped up F-cars himself. COOL!!!!
In other words, before taking your car to the dealer for something like this, do your research into any "mod-friendly" service writers in your area... it can pay off in a big way.

Just chill and play dumb and you'll be ok. If they say no, don't raise an argument. Tow it out, say it's going home. Use your own Tow and take it to another dealer. Repeat.

I spun a bearing and had it done under warranty. The rep came down looked at the block and said you could eat off of this block. He's like there was no abuse here
They are just waiting for the rep to come down and give the final say. I got a brand new T-56 at 5,000 miles too. It didnt like powershifting. U will get the work done. I just hope you get a new block and not a rebuild.
