Project Dragula is fixed... No more backfiring
I went 11.15@120.30mph as a best at around 3600 raceweight. Car was heavy, shift points were low, this was thru a Flowmaster muffler, etc., hardly the results of a dialed in combo.
But since then, nothing but heartache and disappointment was the result everytime we took Dragula to the track.
Car was dynoed and did 450rwhp unlocked... with huge torque like over 500rw.
But at the track the car had nothing but problems. Car would backfire at the top of 3rd and then just about shut off.
Problem got worse over time. Car was now doing this whenever I would go wide open throttle.
I tried rewiring a bunch of stuff. I changed several sensors.
Finally, after almost three months of this, I gave up. I drove the car over to Speed Inc. (www.ls1speed.com) and asked Jim aka Intmd8 to look at it.
Well - He just called. Looks like it's fixed!!!!
Wahhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Programming was not right.
Car now runs much better at 13:1 AF than 15:1 AF.
Injector scaling was way off and the car had multiple tuning issues.
Jim just did like 5 full passes on a side street and he cannot get the car to hook on the 28" MH's... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I just wanted to thank Tom Izzo, Jim Moran, and Larry Hamilton of Speed Inc. for letting me bring the car there and for taking the time to troubleshoot the mysterious problem.
It would be nice to take the car to the track tonite and see what it would run before we installed the new ARE heads and cam but there's no time.
Thanks again guys, you really made my week. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Who knows what might happen now that I got my bigger cam back in (that dynos better) and after I get my new 30# injectors in (tonight) <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Did you not ever pull a spark plug out after a run to see what it looked like?
Mine is really lean now @ part throttle. I need to to some tweaking myself to get it right...
Now you can swap parts and have it re-programmed. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
10.5x's,baby!

My problem was a combination of the improperly scaled injectors and other aspects of the tune. No wonder the car never mph'd well.

That injector scaling will really throw you off if it's not right... Thank goodness ChrisB helped me out with the SVO 42#'ers in my car...
1) Who did the original tuning? Does his name rhyme with "Ted Night"? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
2) I just replaced my stock (1999 LS1) injectors with Ford 30# injectors. I have been using my MAF-T as the only adjustment, setting it to 30% lean. I'm not too happy with it. I feel like I am losing a little power and I often get a lot of pinging at low throttles in high gears (ESPECIALLY when at higher loads). Would I benefit from some new tuning or will the MAF-T be as good as it gets for setting the injector scaling?
Thanks bud. Glad to know you got your car running right again! Awesome! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
_KRIS
You need to tune with LS1edit and use the spreadsheet Chris B has developed to get you started. Then wideband the car on the dyno and tune in your WOT AF ratio/timing etc.
The MAFT isnt going to cut it at all.
Cheers,
Chris
Tan, got it all together, but figure $500-800 for rods, and $500-800 for pistons, try ARE or LS1 Motorsports.
Kris, no it rhymes with Cryin' Poor-Ball. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Terryble, que paso, I think 36lb'ers are better for 525rwhp but then again I ain't never hit that number.
Maybe Jim will log on tonite and go into more detail.
My programming was off and the car was always a dog for the parts I had in the car.
Then did Dyin' Bore-fall...
Now it's Speed Inc.!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Old heads and cam are already off the car. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
