Default What head for MS3

What head is everyone using to get the best track numbers out or the MS3 Cam? And how much can say a 243 casting head be milled with the MS3 using a stock head gasket?

Your best bet is to get ahold of the guys at TSP and ask them. I went with the PRC 5.3 heads and MS3 on the yellow car. It feels very strong and I'll find out Sunday what kind of numbers she is putting down.

I never did understand how you could gain power from a head off a 5.3 truck engine.......I understand they raise the compression but is that all?

I run the LS6 stage 3 P&P heads and they put down around 460 to 470 at the wheels. As for milling I know PTV is close on most heads with that cam so I would ask TSP what they would recommend.

With our MS3 camshaft, you have a few options:

1. PRC stage 1.0 LS6

2. PRC stage 2.5 LS6

3. PRC stage 2.5 5.3L

We can set any of the above heads up to properly clear with our MS3 without fly-cutting. You definitely need to specify to the salesman when you order the heads that you're running the MS3 cam so the heads will be built for such. The LS6 heads use a 230cc intake runner vs. the 5.3's 220cc intake runner. The LS6 heads will also have a larger combustion chamber at 64cc vs. the 5.3's 62cc. So, you'll be able to net a little more compression with the 5.3's. Some prefer the 5.3's for their smaller runner size, but you're not going to notice a big real-world difference between the two with respect to driveability. No matter which heads you purchase, you need to use a stock-thickness head gasket with unmilled heads. Both the 5.3's and LS6 heads will work well with the MS3 camshaft. Both heads will offer similar performance. It usually comes down to personal preference and/or cost. You can purchase the 5.3's as a stage 2.5 for $1,199 complete with the PRC dual spring kit vs. $1,449.99 for the stage 2.5 LS6 heads with the PRC dual spring kit. FYI, the stage 2.5 LS6's will flow approximately 8-10 cfm more vs. the stage 1.0 LS6's. The only difference between the two is valve size.
